When Nanjing IOT Wireless Sensor Networks Meet the Cloud Tech

A Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) consists of a large number of low-cost, low-power, multifunctional and resource-constrained sensor nodes with each sensor node consisting of sensing, data processing, and communicating components; these nodes can operate unattended for long durations. Sensor networks are designed with the flexibility to withstand harsh environmental conditions. These are networks of wireless interconnected smart devices designed and deployed to retrieve sensor data of interest from their host environments. Sensor nodes perform measurements of some physical phenomena, collect and process data, communicate with other peers or a central information processing unit, the sink. These nodes are capable of sensing various phenomena, such as Pressure, Temperature, Humidity, Position, Velocity, Acceleration, Force, Vibration, Proximity, Motion, Biochemical agents, etc. They are capable of processing textual, voice and video data making them very useful.

According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Cloud Computing (CC) is an innovative technological paradigm that provides convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (for example, sensors) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.

Cloud Computing provides several benefits such as on-demand self-service, broad network access, resource pooling (location independence), rapid elasticity, measured service, massive scale, homogeneity, virtualization, resilient computing, low cost software, geographic distribution, service orientation and advanced security.

The integration of these two key technologies (WSNs and CC) provides us with a robust and scalable infrastructure for several applications such as the Smart Grid. This novel approach allows for the efficient management of millions of smart meters or sensors and other energy management systems. This infrastructure also provides the tools necessary for collecting, disseminating and storing real-time sensor data from geographically disparate sensors. The Cloud components provide a foundation for securing and providing user access to the software, middleware and hardware resources.

Home Security Systems - Flood Sensor Monitoring

Although disasters such as home fire and earthquake get far more media attention, the fact is that flooding is far more common and does substantially more damage - with effects that can last for months, if not years. A home security system with a flood sensor can't stop a flood, but it can alert you when water enters you home. This can help you limit the damage to your home. The sooner you can move valuables to higher ground, and start pumping the water out the less damage you will receive.

People living in low-lying areas such as the Gulf Coast or along the Mississippi River bottoms have discovered this the hard way. However, such flooding is not confined to areas around rivers, lakes and seacoast. Virtually anyone in North America can be a flood victim - and it doesn't take a great deal of water to cause a substantial amount of damage. According to National Flood Insurance Program, no more than 1 inch of water is all it takes to cause major property damage. Flood waters only two feet deep can carry off an automobile.

Tragically, a great deal of flood danger is caused by irresponsible development by greedy corporations that want to throw up housing developments in the most unlikely places, simply to turn fast profits. Compounding the tragedy is the fact that these homes are usually cheaply built and easily damaged - and then, homeowners find they are not even covered when they attempt to file a claim.

When it comes to flood danger, forewarned is forearmed. Just as your home has fire and intruder alert systems installed, so too should it have a flood alert system. Several reputable companies offer flood warning stations and systems for residential use that monitor factors such as precipitation, water levels for your area, wind speed and direction, relative humidity, temperature and even moisture levels in the soil - all of which can significantly affect the amount of damage your home is liable to suffer.

Most of these systems can be customized for different geographical regions, networked to National Weather Service bureaus such as NOAA over the World Wide Web, and use the latest communication technologies to keep you and your family informed about flood dangers, allowing you to take preventive steps - or if necessary, evacuate ahead of the rush.

When looking into a home security system with flood sensors, be certain that such a system can be combined with resources from local and federal government agencies, allowing you to access up-to-the-minute data via satellite and other sources.

Investment in a home security system with flood sensors for your home is as important as having smoke and fire alarms and intruder protection, regardless of where you live in the U.S.

For more detailed information and to explore just how effective Home Security Systems can be, check out our website found at the bottom of the page.

Use a ADT home security system which includes fire sensors. ADT offers a free wireless home alarm system that alerts your family, and the fire department. Wireless home security systems have many advantages, and include heat as well as smoke alarms.

What is a Weather Remote Sensor?

Weather stations were once large, ugly, stationary devices. That has changed dramatically. Today, there are a variety of small weather stations available for different purposes in the home. Almost all of them are able to take advantage of wireless technology and use remote sensors to gather information.

A remote weather sensor is a small device that is usually mounted or set down in an area where it can transmit collected weather data to a central unit. What that data is depends on the sensor, of course.

The remote sensors come in all forms for all functions. The highest quality ones usually only broadcast a single type of weather data. For example, there could be separate remote sensors for wind speed and direction, humidity, rainfall amount, and temperature. All four of these sensors transmit information (most often by a low-strength radio signal) back to a central unit that neatly displays the numbers all at once.

There are also units that will allow remote sensors to be placed in completely different areas, and then each reading can be cycled through on the central unit, providing data on different areas at the same time. This is especially useful for people with large homes or greenhouses that want to track the temperatures or humidity in separate areas.

Whether they are hobbyists, scientists, or gardeners, consumers have taken a strong liking to remote weather sensors. They have become a mainstay in holiday gift catalogs. The price continues to come down each year on these units, allowing for higher quality sensors with more features to make their way into the market.

Embedded Control - Record Layouts Improve Database and RFID Sensor Testing

Software application designers and hardware application developers are working as teams to incorporate control-record layouts into end-to-end XML services for RFID networks. Using these newly formed XML tag sets made up of customized control-records has improved the design and development scenarios across diverse hardware platforms, operating systems, applications, and databases.

As software application developers begin to build RFID-and-sensor networks within key growth areas, it has become common place to witness recent deployments of control-record structures embedded in sensors and their supporting software. These control records contribute immensely to the major functions of any RFID sensor application including inputs, data-lookup and storage, interface programming and outputs.

These five major features are now incorporated into the application as a new and more efficient XML and database schema. This improved configuration has proven to meet growing demands to test multi-vendor RFID and sensor products for their ability to withstand extreme conditions. These conditions include excessive heat and cold, shock, humidity, vibration, altitude, pressure and all are reliably monitored using the new control-record layout approach.

The key design feature in the programming arrangement described in this article is the idea that an intermediate control record receives and distributes signals to and from the software and hardware sides of the full application. This nicely integrates selected signals from both spheres of operation and allows an interface to adapt dynamically to different device types. As new devices are attached and configured with the application, no appreciable interference is noticed in the originally attached devices.

Because the embedded layout of many types of devices can be addressed through the use of control records, new applications are provided with better XML testing languages. Additionally, this feature provides designers with the opportunity to introduce database simulators for a more accurate and dynamic portrayal of RFID and Sensor operation. This dynamic portrayal is added to the accumulated testing history and a better picture of performance emerges.

As RFID becomes more widely deployed, network reliability, security, and data integrity become increasingly critical. And for most companies, the task of ensuring those three things will be overwhelming and complex, especially across multiple hardware platforms and configurations and diverse supplier and partner networks and databases.

But because it is now feasible to virtually attach these control-record layouts to alleviate some of the major complexities associated with the required tests, any company can develop new products that may have been prohibitive in the past.

The Importance Of The Humidity Sensor

A humidity sensor is a device that measures the comparative humidity in a certain area. While it is complicated, it is also important to our daily life. We will discuss how it works, and how our daily life is affected by it. Also, we will be describing the details of different prototypes.

Affiliated with humidity is water, and sensors are usually electronic, so we know that much. There are two types, an analog and digital sensor. For an mechanical one, three components are necessary. First, the exterior is made out plastic. Secondly, there is a small capacitor in the interior made of film-like glass or ceramics. The interior is insulated by a polymer. For a digital sensor, microchips are used instead of a capacitor and polymer.

Polymer is a topic in itself. It has a biological synthesis which is perfect for absorbing and emitting. This affects the analog, making it intellectually simpler. The amount of water vapor in the air, is then absorbed by the polymeric material. This polymer then emits water based on the relative water vapors. This changes the electric scale of the capacitor which shifts the analog.

A digital sensor contains various chips. Some are in essence a data Logger, and others are converters. There is also a tiny analog in between the various chips. The Data Logger chips, through an analog, digitalizes the humidity. This information is then transferred to a chip which displays the information.

There are various deficiencies to the analog form. An analog contains a large amount of polymer so when the polymer wears away the entire balance changes. Also, since there are many components a calibration process is necessary. To configure many units together through trial and error is strenuous. Another problem is the electricity balance in the capacitor. This leads to increased spending on electronics, but that also means less money.

There are many benefits to the digital style. The interior does not consist of polymer, but rather it is used as a protective encasement. This allows for efficiency without collaboration. In addition to the longevity of the collaboration it is easily replaceable. In the analog form, polymer not only has to be replaced, it also has to be collaborated.

In our surroundings, we have embedded in our technology a humidity sensor. Our air condition needs it to determine how much the temperature needs to be lowered. Modern Dryers use them to stop the machine at the proper time. Cars, our daily transportation, have one located in the exhaust manifold to control in-car temperature. Cutting edge jets and shuttles use them to control oxygen and temperature levels. Now with advance technology we have even learned how to determine which crops a block of soil can sustain.

In a world with many new concepts and ideas, possible insignificant ideas are tossed. However a humidity sensor is part of technology. They are necessary to maintain the infrastructure of our daily life. They will represent the future. Whether it is the latest tablet, or laptop, they are here and present.

Welcome to Canada's source for Calibration Service. With 30 years of experience providing technical solutions, we are the test equipment leaders.

Learn To Avoid Foundation Damage With A Moisture Sensor

More than 70% of our planet is made up of water. Human beings, plants and animals need water to live and, in fact, we need special adaptations in order to live in areas where water is not abundant. Agriculturists hope that it rains as much as their crops need it and we all enjoy rainy Sundays at home. However, water is not always welcome especially if, out of a sudden, we discover that our basement has turned into our own, private ocean.

Having a leaking pipe and suffering from rainwater leaking can definitely have a negative effect in our home foundation, thus leading us to spend thousands of dollars in professional plumbers and professional contractors that are able to bring our home back to normal. When excessive water affects our foundation, it can affect its resistance and durability and be seriously weakened.

It is well known that home owners have to do regular plumbing check ups in their homes in order to be sure that there are no leaking pipes, clogged drains and that there is enough water pressure coming out of the shower and other taps.

But no matter how thorough and responsible we are taking care of our home and its foundation, many a time the leak occurs in a place where we cannot see it easily and, therefore, when we realize that we have a serious foundation problem is too late. We all know that mold and fungi are signs of humidity but many a time they occur in areas of our home we just do not check on a regular basis or are difficult to access.

In such occasions, home owners can rely on having a moisture sensor installed either in the basement or in any other place of their home. A moisture sensor, also called hygrometer or humidity analyzer are extremely sensitive humidity measurement instruments that enable home owners to make sure that the humidity in a certain room is kept within certain acceptable ranges. When the moisture sensor indicates that there is much more relative humidity in the environment than expected it immediately reports that to the home owner who are then able to promptly fix the problem.

There are different types of moisture sensors available in the market. Some of them are large and very sophisticated and are more suitable for industrial use. Others are relatively small and much less affordable. Shop around carefully and you will surely find one tailored suit to your needs.

1. Temperature and Humidity: You can monitor critical temperatures continuously and in real time with a system that wirelessly monitors the temperature of equipment (cold or hot) anywhere in your building such as: kitchens, laboratories, pharmacies, nursing and medical stations as well as off-site facilities. The system can page, e-mail and visually alert any computer screen the moment food, lab samples, pharmaceuticals or other temperature sensitive items are outside the prescribed parameters. Wireless humidity and temperature sensors allow flexibility, reduce wiring cost and transmit data up to 100 feet without the use of a repeater. The unit is battery powered using two AA batteries and it uses a 418 MHz transmitter so you can change the location of the sensors without worrying about extra labor costs.

2. Barometric pressure: The wireless sensor system also provides Web-based monitoring humidity, and barometric pressure in critical HVAC and refrigeration applications. The compact wireless "end devices" mount on the wall in clean rooms, laboratories, museums, computer server rooms, warehouses, and any remote facility. You can select one end device to serve as an internal or external sensor, in order to monitor temperature and humidity both inside and outside a climate-controlled facility. Another bonus is that these devices are designed for harsh environments such as outdoor weather, HVAC ducts, freezers and refrigerators.

3. Water Detection Sensors: These detection sensors have a remote monitoring system which uses an 802.11 Wi-Fi network of water leak detection in pipelines, agricultural fields, server rooms and more and is available with various other applications.

4. CO2 Sensors: With these sensors you can monitor the CO2 levels continuously and in real time. It is a system that uses your existing Wi-Fi network and is ideal for indoor air quality, HVAC management, environmental surveillance, greenhouses, and incubators. You will receive a page, e-mail and visual alert on any computer screen whenever your measurements are outside the prescribed parameters, making your home and/or workplace safer.

5. PH Sensors: This sensor is ideal for storage applications where continuous pH monitoring is required such as: health care, food storage and inside a laboratory. As with the CO2 sensors, you will receive a page, e-mail and visually alert on any computer screen whenever your measurements are outside the prescribed parameters.

Just some of the various reasons to install them, environmental sensors are easy to add to your life, take up little space, and work effectively to make your work easier, safer and more effective.

Predict The Future With A Humidity Temperature Sensor

A humidity temperature sensor is a handy equipment to have. If you know how to read the data that it provides, you can use it to essentially control your indoor environmental conditions. Most people think that just controlling the temperature of a room or office is the key to feeling at optimal levels. While this is partially true, you also need to consider the amount of water vapor in the air or the "humidity" in the equation.

There are many definitions of a comfortable indoor environment. It may mean different things to different people. It could mean that a home or desk at work adorned with so many beautiful things like precious ornaments, valuable artifacts and expensive decorations.

For some individuals, they look at the practical side before they consider their haven comfortable and convenient. And one of these factors is the ability of the space to control and regulate the temperature, thereby making it livable and conducive to more efficient working conditions in extreme hot summer days or cold freezing nights.

An efficient home is an insulated home, capable of defending itself from scorching heat conditions. High humidity inside your precious abode is a sure killer of your family and your health. Yes, we are speaking of mold and mildew growth.

In addition, they will certainly shorten the lives of your expensive appliances and electronics which do not thrive in extreme heat condition. The microchips embedded in your laptop, computer and other gadgets easily break apart in terms of function when exposed in heat.

Thus, there is an important need, in such conditions, to have your space insulated to prevent trapping heat inside it. As you may guess, in order for the occupants to be comfy and television and computers to function properly it could get costly if you do not have a way of monitoring your indoor conditions and nip potential issues in the bud.

By having a humidity temperature sensor on hand, it can alert you to potential issues before they happen. It could even allow you to allocated funds in advance to purchase new air conditioning systems because you can practically foresee that replacement of the old system may be in the cards.

It is highly important that you have sufficient knowledge on cooling systems. Be friends with your heating, ventilation and cooling systems. Treat them right with regular maintenance and repairs if necessary and they will, in turn provide you with efficient indoor environments.

Sensing Inside a Greenhouse Through Wireless Sensor Networks - An Emerging Technology

What is a Wireless Sensor Network?

A Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) consists of several distributed wireless sensor nodes that sense vibration, noise, and temperature. Each node has its own memory, battery, a processor and a sensor and is autonomous. These nodes are reliable, heterogeneous, scalable, fault tolerant and they require less power consumption.

In today's world WSN are used everywhere say in traffic controlling systems, in forests to detect fire, in green houses to monitor plants, in military to monitor spy activities, in houses to monitor water and waste water, in smart houses and in many more places. WSN has become an essential technology to live with.

WSN in Greenhouse monitoring:

A greenhouse is a place where plants are grown. To set up WSN in a greenhouse the nodes are placed on leaves and crops. The base node is responsible for collecting data from all nodes and communicating with the main server or computer.

For whom?

WSN for greenhouse monitoring is required for the greenhouse owner who wants maximum cultivation of crops in any environmental conditions.

The WSN nodes sense following:

Temperature
Level of Carbon Dioxide
Light
Humidity
Radiation

Monitoring these environmental factors continuously helps to gather information about the crops and plants in the greenhouse. Information collected is further manipulated to manage productivity of crops. Whenever there is a change rather than expected, i.e. temperature increase or decreases suddenly, the manager is notified about the condition of affected area using text message, or call or e-mail or any other thing like buzzer by the data communication system. Manager then takes action accordingly.

WSN nodes communicate with each other and share important data that will be useful for network. Network topology used for such networks depends on total area of the greenhouse, cost and other factors.

Data stored using sensor nodes on the computer is then manipulated and meaningful interpretation is obtained using data mining, knowledge management methods.

It provides faster deployment, installment flexibility for sensors, and better sturdiness than wired networks.

Conclusion:

A Wireless Sensor Network is a measurement tool. WSN applied in greenhouse evaluates and maintains growth of crops. It saves cost and energy of wiring and connecting all nodes. It only costs to set up and maintain the network. It is very convenient to handle greenhouse in real-time more efficiently. It is better to use such technology rather than wasting money in poor estimations and labor that is typical faced during crop cultivation.

Arduino Temperature, Humidity and Dew Point Via Hurimel HS1101 Sensor Interface

A great option for adding temperature and humidity (and dew point) measurement to the Arduino (and freeduino) is to use the Hurimel HS1101 sensor.? It is packages as a small board, approximately 1" x 2" with 4 screw terminals.

The only electrical connections are these 4 - 1 for ground, and 3 I/O pins used on the Arduino - 1 analog and 2 digital.?? The pin references used in this article are taken from a Freeduino BBB board.

The 4 pins on the Hurimel are THERM, PULSE, GND and V+.?? Besides a connection to ground on the Arduino, 3 additional pins will be required - an analog and 2 digital pins.? One digital pin is used to provide power (+5VDC), in this example, pin 2 is connected to the V+ screw terminal on the Hurimel.?? Digital pin 5 can be used to count the pulses, connected to the PULSE screw terminal on the Hurimel.? Finally an analog input is required for the temperature reading.? Analog pin A5 on the Arduino connected to the THERM screw terminal on the Hurimel.? Note that a 10k resistor must also be placed between 5V and analog pin A5 on the Arduino.

In summary, the electrical connections in this example are:?

Arduino BBB digital pin 2? -- Hurimel V+ screw terminal
digital pin 5 -- Hurimel PULSE terminal.
GND pin/connection -- Hurimel GND terminal.
Arduino BBB analog pin A5 -- Hurimel THERM terminal.
analog pin A5 -- 10k resistor -- Arduino BBB GND +5v DC pin/connection

In a future article, the Arduino source code required to read the temperature, humidity and dew point measurements will be discussed.

Install A WiFi Sensor to Get Accurate and Fast Measurement of Temperature

Do you run a hospital, blood bank, pharmacy, food services, or a data center? Then, perhaps you have already seen how temperature plays a huge role maintaining the quality of medical products such as medicines, blood products, and other pharmaceutical goods. Moreover, in hospitals, increased humidity can create numerous health problems and make patients feel uncomfortable. So, to avoid all these things you need to control the temperature appropriately. That is why you need to keep a constant track of the temperature.

Though, humidity in air is necessary to some extent, but if it exceeds the recommended level, medicines and blood products can get damaged. Even breathing and indoor plants can form moisture. Moreover, we unknowingly produce moisture by various water based activities like washing, cleaning, bathing, cooking, and so on. All these activities can increase the moisture level. Apart from that, medical instruments can produce a lot of heat as high voltage electricity is flowing through them continuously. So, ultimately, the heat is affecting the normal temperature of the room. This is why temperature must be measured accurately. And, the best way to do this is installing WiFi sensors to measure the level of humidity.

WiFi sensors are used to measure and get the accurate reports of relative humidity (RH) present in the air. These devices can be installed with heating, ventilating, and air conditioning units (HVAC). It will convert the report into digital reading to help you get the precise measurement of the moisture present in the air. These devices are widely used in health departments, hospitals, multi-location medical facilities, and many other health care services. Because of their effectiveness and accuracy, they can measure temperatures down to -200' C. In case it detects a poor temperature condition, it will alert you instantly along with the necessary actions you need to take to improve the air quality.

A quality WiFi sensor have the following features:

* They are battery powered. So, in case there's a power cut and you don't have immediate backup, your WiFi sensor won't stop working.

* The sensor nodes of WiFi sensors communicate directly with Industry Standard Access Points. That means, more accuracy without wasting any time.

* You don't need to attach any other devices with the WiFi sensors. So, that eliminates the hassle of purchasing expensive devices like routers, hosts, repeaters, and receivers.

* These devices are capable of using all types of WPA, WPA2, and WEP encryption.

Remember, your first priority is to get in touch with a reputed company selling WiFi sensors that have all the features mentioned above.

Advantages Of A Humidity Temperature Sensor

Having a humidity temperature sensor at home can make your life incredibly much more comfortable. As long as you learn how to read and interpret the data it provides, this highly technical device enables you to adjust the humidity and temperature conditions in your house to the most comfortable and healthy levels.

Having a humidity temperature sensor can even be the key to feeling at ease in every room at your house or office at work. Although many people believe that having the temperature of a room under control is enough so that it is neither too hot nor too warm, in fact it is also of utmost importance to take into consideration the relative humidity present in the environment as well. What is more, many people are more sensitive to extreme humidity conditions than they are to extreme temperatures and develop allergies, dry noses or running noses even.

Odds are that if you survey people about which the most comfortable environment at a room or office are you will receive plenty of different answers. Some people will describe to you a room with a nice sofa and a tea table at the side, some good books and soft music background; others will talk about a large wooden L-shaped desk and an ergonomic chair; and others will talk about just a lit fireplace and some cushions to sit on. You may also receive some more practical replies such as the ones related to being able to control the temperature of the room so that they can be working or enjoying a movie on TV on clothes that allow them relax without having to suffer from hot or cold.

In order to manage your home and work environment efficiently it is of utmost importance that you have your home insulated from the conditions outdoors. If you are able to keep humidity away you will prevent fungi and mold from appearing. And if you can keep an average nice temperature you will be able to ensure a longer life to many of your electrical appliances that are sensitive to heat and cold such as microchips embedded in ID cards or the microprocessor of your laptop or netbook.

And you only need a humidity temperature sensor to keep your house or office insulated. These highly technical devices can be used to efficiently monitor the temperature and humidity levels at a certain room in order to ensure that it is always within a certain acceptable range. If it gets too cold, it can heat up the room and it can cool it down if it is too hot. And as regards humidity, it can make the environment drier whenever that it is needed.

How A Humidity Sensor Can Help You Improve the Air Quality

What is humidity?

Humidity is the total amount of water vapor or moisture present in the air. You, your family members, and even your pets produce moisture at the time of breathing. Did you know, even your indoor plants can create moisture? Moreover, we use water in various indoor activities like bathing, showering, washing clothes, cooking, and dish washing. All these can form moisture, that, if not controlled or measured properly with the help of a humidity sensor, can cause serious health problems. And, if you run a health center like hospital, blood bank, and pharmacy then you keeping track of the temperature is an absolute necessity.

When does humidity becomes a problem?

Certain amount of humidity is required for the comfort and health of you and your family members. However, too much or too little amount of humidity can create a lot of problems. Such problems generally becomes intolerable when all the windows and doors are closed and the indoor air cannot circulate properly.

How a humidity sensor can help

It is a device that is used to measure and get the report of the relative humidity present in the indoor air. If you or any of your family members suffer with illness affected by humidity, then you can consider buying a measurement device as a part of your heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Apart from that, they can also be used in wine cellars, cars, commercial HVAC systems, and meteorology departments to predict and report weather.

How does it work

Such devices sense relative humidity (RH) and measures moisture and air temperature. Wondering what is RH? Well, it is the ratio of the total moisture present in the air and how much temperature the air can hold. Generally, the warmer the air gets, the more moisture it becomes. That is why relative humidity or the ratio fluctuates in temperature. A humidity sensor will sense the ratio and convert it into digital reading to show the amount of moisture.

What are the options available

However, there are different types of humidity sensors available in the market but not all of them can provide precise measurement of temperature and humidity. Moreover, if you do not want to get into the hassles of wires and huge devices, then you should consider buying a compact WIFI device for your requirements. These devices are accurate, small in size, and affordable as well.

What is a Humidity Sensor and How is it Useful?

Humidity sensors are used in homes as part of the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning,) as well as in office buildings and industry. They are used in places that are affected by high and low humidity that requires a set constant humidity to be maintained. A humidity sensor, also referred to as a hygrometer, is a device that measures the humidity in the air. The humidity sensor monitors the electrical changes in relation to the quantity of humidity in the air. It is used to control such machines as air conditioners, humidifiers, and dehumidifiers by adjusting to the changes in the level of humidity in the air.

Hygrometer are beneficial for people who suffer from health conditions that are aggravated by high humidity. As well, a person with allergies or asthma can use a humidity sensor because low humidity can aggravate these conditions and too much humidity can cause the growth of fungus, bacteria, mold, and mildew which can also aggravate these conditions. They are also useful for people with wine cellars who want to maintain a constant temperature and humidity so wine does not spoil. As well, hygrometer are useful for storage of valuable items such as antiques which can be damaged if exposed to moisture. The sensor mechanism of the humidity sensor detects the electrostatic changes in the air as the humidity in the air around it changes.

The benefit of these sensors in industry are they allow for accurate measurements and recording of humidity data. The data loggers can be used for real-time monitoring and sends an alert if there are sudden changes. Once the sensor picks up the changes, the measurement is then converted into humidity readings and recorded in a data logger. The changes in voltage are converted into digital readings showing the amount of moisture in the air. There is the choice of using a couple of data loggers in one application or numerous data loggers for monitoring broadly dispersed locations. It is useful for mapping and validation, and data logging and recording, for reports.

Three types of sensor technologies are Resistive, Capacitive, and Thermal Conductivity sensing. Resistive sensors are useful when using them in remote locations. Capacitive sensors are beneficial for wide RH range and condensation tolerance. Thermal conductivity sensors are beneficial in corrosive environments that have high temperatures. The type of sensor used will depend on the type of environment. Commercial and office buildings often have humidity sensors in their HVAC systems, which assists in keeping the air safe and healthy to breathe. Humidity sensors also have industrial uses for the manufacturing of materials that are sensitive to moisture. As well, humidity sensors are used for collecting data for weather stations and ocean research where humidity has to be measured and recorded for a period of time to evaluate patterns and forecast weather.

Advancements in technology have made it possible to control humidity for a variety of reasons such as to maintain healthy indoor air, protect items from moisture exposure, and for different research applications. There are a number of companies online that specialize in providing quality hygrometer that are highly accurate and resistant to damage from physical and chemical contaminants.

With over 30 years of experience providing technical solutions, we are the data logger leaders.

What is a Plant Sensor, and How Do They Work?

Every year over $60 billion is spent on plants in the USA. According to a recent poll over 30% of these plants will wither and die shortly after they have been planted. This is a massive amount of wastage which in all honesty is in most cases avoidable. There are various reasons why plants die and sometimes it is unavoidable if the plant becomes diseased or damaged. But in a huge proportion of cases it has nothing to do with these reasons. It is purely down to the new owner not caring for the plant in the correct manner. Now don't you think that is a waste of, not only your own hard earned money, but also the time it has taken the grower to produce the plant and also your own time to select and plant it? Well if this scenario is familiar to you, and I know it is very familiar to me, there is now something that you can do about it. The answer is to use a plant sensor.

Recent advances in technology have seen some amazing new products come onto the market which help not only novice gardeners but experienced and competent ones also. One of the best known of these new plant sensor products is the Easybloom by Plantsense. This device will assist you in not only getting your new plants off to a flying start, but also with any existing plants which seem to be struggling. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor plants. It works by getting the plants eye view of the soil and the general growing conditions in which it is situated.

So how does it achieve this you may be asking yourself?

The Easybloom plant sensor was developed by a team of botanists and horticulturists based in San Francisco by the Plantsense Inc. It is designed to measure four specific areas which are vital for a plants healthy growth and these are.

Light Conditions
Soil Moisture
Temperature
Humidity Of Atmosphere.

If any of these conditions are not right for your plant, chances are it will never reach its full potential.

So What Do I Need To Do To Make It Work?

Well the answer to this could not be easier. All you need to do is to push the plant sensor into the ground, the container or the pot your plant is going to be in, and leave it for a minimum of 24 hours. Thats pretty simple right?

After 24 hours or more take the plant sensor out of the soil and attach it to your computer via a USB connector. The results of the conditions will be downloaded automatically to your Easybloom account and you will be able to check if the conditions are what your plant would require. You do not need to be some techno wizard either it is all laid out step by step. The data is only suitable for USA regions. The reason for this is that there is much data on specific zip code areas so you can be this precise with your requirements. But not only can this plant sensor analyze the climatic conditions to check for suitability, there is so much more that can be done via this items analysis.

The database also gives you a comprehensive list of all plants that are likely to thrive in your conditions. You can select the type of plant you would like to grow, you can select the colour the strain, the flowering season etc, basically really narrowing down your requirements. The data collected from your plant sensor will inform you if the chosen plant is likely to thrive in your conditions, and if not, what you can do to improve the conditions and ultimately the plants chances of success. There are over 5000 plants listed on the database so you will have plenty of choice. You will be able to choose plants to thrive in every area of your home and garden by placing the plant sensor in different locations and gathering individual data from each area. You can also keep a full inventory of your own plants at the present time and into the future.

So no longer will you have to wonder if a corner of the yard is too dark, or if the conditions are too cold, or is the soil too dry? None of these issues need ever be a worry again once you have a plant sensor in your possession there will be no excuse for not keeping your plants, both indoor and outdoor, looking fit and healthy for many years to come. In addition you can keep a record of your gardening expertise forever and look back with fond memories over your successes and hopefully not too many failures.

But be sure to take some before and after photographs to show everyone what a 'green thumb' you have now developed!

5 Ways Sensor Tags Protect Your Business

Taking care of your company assets is one of the highest priorities for any savvy business owner. Whether you are worried about theft or the storage and shipment of sensitive goods, sensor tags can help alleviate your stress. The following are 5 ways in which sensor tags can help protect your business.

1. Prevent theft by alerting when entry points have opened:

If you have high value items in storage, or plan to ship these items from your warehouses to a client, then preventing theft is a huge concern. With sensor tags, you can protect your assets and business by placing tags on entry points. If these entries are opened or tampered with, you will be sent an alert via a number of manners such as text message, email, or video.

2. Provide early detection of leaks and thus avoid costly repairs:

This is perhaps most apparent in the storage and transportation of perishable goods, such as livestock, fresh produce and pharmaceutical products. If humidity or temperature rises or falls, leaks can occur, which can damage or render useless your goods. This is bad for you because it can cost you thousands of dollars, but also for your clients, who will not continue their business with you. With tags, you can monitor warehouses and trucks on the move. This will help keep you updated on the status of your products from the time of departure to the time of arrival.

3. Monitor an asset's temperature condition:

Sensor tags can alert you when temperatures rise or fall before your equipment is damaged. This will improve your company's operations, especially if you store or transport sensitive goods. If you need to constantly monitor and report environmental changes, then sensor tags will help you greatly. Your company records will be much more accurate and professional for reporting and analysis purposes. The monitoring of temperatures is critical in settings such as hospitals, where refrigerators and freezers store vaccines, food, pharmaceuticals and patient test results. For such valuable items, tags can be set to read temperatures at intervals specified by the user, ensuring patient safety and quality patient care.

4. Wireless tag programmability and configuration:

Most tags are Wi-Fi compliant and allow you to check on your goods 24/7 and in real-time. You can purchase tags that unify all visibility data on a single Wi-Fi based platform. This is a great way to make your business more automated and simple to manage. Because of the flexibility of wireless, these tags can work in various environments both indoors and outdoors. With quality tags, you will have hardware and software that allows you to visibly monitor your assets from virtually any location.

5. Automatic alerts can be set:

A wonderful feature of sensor tags is the ability to set various alarms. If, for example, a temperature or environmental condition reaches a certain threshold, you and your staff can be notified immediately. The alerts are accurate and reliable because they are sent in real-time and they can be sent via e-mail, text messages, pages, and phone calls.
