Advantages Of Sensored Clothes Dryers

Clothes dryers are, probably, busy moms' best friends. They are really convenient and practical if you have a large family or if you live in a wet, rainy area and your clothes take a lot of time to dry up. Even if you are a mom of a single child you can find that clothes dryers are highly advantageous as they allow you to get rid of the lining rope and they help you have your clothes ready to be ironed in no time.

If you shop around for clothes dryers you will probably be surprised by the wide variety of them that is available in the market. If you want to buy one or if you have to replace yours, it is highly advisable that you opt for a sensored one.

Let's first explain that a sensored clothes dryer is not "sensitive" but it comes with an in built moisture sensor that will help you take proper care of your clothes. Moisture sensors are highly technical devices that are sensitive to humidity and moisture. They are widely used in varied and multiple industrial and factory environments and they play a very important role in helping factory operators make sure that the products they produce comply with the strictest industrial expectations. For instance, they are used in the food and beverage industry to dry up coffee beans, barley grains, potato chips and breakfast cereals and in the pharmaceutical industry to ensure that the humidity does not affect the properties of chemical compounds.

Clothes dryers with an in built moisture sensor dry up clothes until this device notes that the humidity level in the piece of clothing is imperceptible and it turns the unit off. Thus, as you can easily appreciate, the fibers of your clothing are preserved from excessive dryness or heat and you are also saving in electricity.

These sophisticated clothes drying units can be a bit more expensive than other models but they are much more advantageous.

Not only are your clothes kept in better condition so there is no risk of accidentally shrinking them but also you do not risk setting your house on fire because the unit over heats.

Sensor dryers usually can be adjusted to different levels according to the type of clothing you have put into the device:

· Level 1: The fabrics will have a very low moisture level so that you can iron them more easily.

· Level 2: It is great for those clothes that will be placed on hangers. The little moisture left will disappear as your clothes are hanged.

· Level 3: It ensures you that the clothes are absolutely dry so that they do not get musty or start to smell badly.

Bathroom Remodeling Trends Include Adding Comfort, Increasing Space, and Planning For the Future

Whether you are doing a whole house remodeling project or just a bathroom renovation, you have a lot of design options to consider. Today's bathrooms aren't just functional afterthoughts. Nowadays homeowners want their bathrooms to be attractive - and they see them as places to relax and unwind. If you're remodeling, think about the feeling you want your bath to evoke - and make sure its design harmonizes with the rest of the house.

Adding Comfort: People want to feel pampered in the bathroom, so a big remodeling trend is adding comfortable instead of just utilitarian features. Radiant heating installed under the floors helps alleviate the problem of cold tiles in the morning. This system adds a little to your remodeling costs, but it can become the room's primary heat source. It is also energy efficient since the tiles retain the warmth after the heater is turned off. Another comfort addition is a home steam room, which can be little more than an enclosed shower stall. The design considerations for a steam room can be tricky since such a system must be completely enclosed and insulated on all surfaces.

Universal Designing: The principles of universal design dictate that a home is made accessible to people of different heights and abilities. If you're remodeling your bathroom, don't just think about your needs now; think about what you will want in the future. You may later appreciate grab bars, easy-to-use controls, and seats in the shower, or a walk-in bath and shower enclosure. Think about wall-mounted sinks that allow room for a wheelchair underneath. These features will not only make your home easier to use, but will increase its resale value.

Greening Features: Green remodeling is as popular in bathrooms as it is in the rest of the house. Homeowners can install low-water use shower heads, low-flow or dual-use toilets, energy-efficient lighting, and green building products such as sustainable woods and recycled glass countertops or tiles. Touchless faucets are now available for residential use and can reduce wasted water. Special water recirculation systems and graywater usage are gaining popularity in areas with water conservation needs.

Adding Luxury Showers: Many homeowners are remodeling their bathroom to expand the shower area and make it more like its own room - one that can accommodate two people at a time. His-and-hers shower heads are showing up as are shower areas designed to work without doors. Shower stalls can be luxuriously appointed with mosaic tiles, lots of glass, or hinged doors. Some people install multiple shower heads on one fixture that can simultaneously massage and shower different parts of the body with water jets. Other popular shower heads are oversized and simulate rainwater by dowsing you from above rather than at an angle like regular showers.

Increasing Light and Space: People want more light in their bathrooms and are remodeling to add windows and skylights. Seeking more space, some homeowners convert a small bedroom into a bathroom. Homeowners are also focusing on the quality of bathroom air. Nowadays fans can have a remote motor elsewhere, like in the attic. This allows them to be much more powerful and quieter with only a small increase in cost. Some fans have humidity sensors that switch them on automatically, and many fans are Energy Star rated.

An Easy Way to Ensure a Good Nights Sleep

On a balmy summers night it is common for high humidity levels to cause loss of sleep and a good deal of discomfort when trying to sleep. For this reason for troublesome and sensitive sleepers it is highly recommended that they make use of a home dehumidifier. For some people they might think that this is going a bit too far but take a look at the negative effects of long term excess humidity:

Disrupted sleep patterns, allergy problems surface due to an increase in dust mite populations, damage can be caused to wallpaper, wood finishes and painted surfaces i.e. blistering from condensation that forms inside on water pipes, windows and even on walls in some cases. Metals in the house can also rust, condensation in electrical appliances can cause irreparable damage not to mention danger and finally musty smells can develop and form mould, mildew and fungus which can all be damaging to your health.

The recommended level of humidity is between 40% and 50%. Air dehumidifiers can help maintain those levels twenty four hours a day. However it is not always easy to select a home dehumidifier that is suitable for you. As there are many different makes and models. Most manufacturers state what size room a dehumidifier is intended for but in reality because humidity levels vary so much between rooms it is not the best gauge of which dehumidifier you should use.

A more appropriate answer to find would be to the question: "Approximately what is the amount of moisture that I need to remove from the air?". From this answer you can look at the dehumidifier model/leaflets and find which one removes the most moisture from the air per day, this figure is provided by most manufacturers and is a reasonable guide to go by; although be aware that air temperature and air flow also play a role in the home dehumidifiers abilities. Once you have figured out how much water per day you would like to remove from the are you are in a much better position to start shopping.

It is also helpful to identify the source of your high humidity, if it is an ongoing problem such as a leaky roof, bad plumbing and so on which cannot be fixed immediately/if ever then you are going to need a more powerful air dehumidifier. If however the problem is not that severe and just occasional then clearly a smaller home dehumidifier would be more suitable.

Furthermore here a re a few features to look out for if you decide to purchase a air dehumidifier:

A continuous drainage feature will mean you don't have to keep emptying the tank, or at least ensure that there is an auto-switch off mechanism to prevent it from flooding, buying a home dehumidifier with wheels is helpful particularly for the elderly who may find them difficult to manoeuvre otherwise, a frost sensor that will switch it off when it becomes to cold is useful especially for basement areas, low noise levels are very important especially if it is to be used in your bedroom and it is worth checking in the shop before getting it home as to how noisy it is, furthermore an air filter will ensure allergy sufferers aren't adversely effected by the air flow and suffering unduly.

Considering all of the above factors and purchasing an air dehumidifier should enable you to maintain suitable levels of humidity that won't interfere with you sleep patterns and ensure you are comfortable at night.

Choosing A Wireless Weather Station

If you are looking into purchasing a weather station you will have noticed that there are many on the market.

Choosing the right weather station for you can seem a little daunting. To ensure you choose the correct weather centre you must first decide what functions you require.

Weather stations come in the range of basic, advanced and top of the range models. Generally speaking the basic models are inexpensive and usually contain only one wireless sensor unit which is perfect if all you require is the temperature readings. These basic models measure the inside and outside temperate as well as humidity.

The more advanced models increase in price from the basic models and have more functions. These models also measure the barometric pressure and predict the weather based on these results along with wind direction and rainfall. The more advanced models also have a memory to store the collected data, which is beneficial when collecting weather pattern information. The advanced models also come with software which allows you to connect your weather centre with your computer in order to upload and review all stored data and forecasts.

Top of the range models combine all the features of the more basic and advanced models and also offer flexible expansion options allowing you to add more sensors for UV, extra temperature and extra humidity information and can be extended past the usual home weather monitoring devices into agricultural, research application and fire weather monitoring observations.

With any of these weather stations you can guarantee that you will be investing in a fun and educational experience of understanding the weather and its forecasts.

Data Logger - Data Storage Devices

A data logger is basically any device that is used for the storage of data. Many are stand alone units that can be used in conjunction with the features of other test equipment like sensors or a humidity sensor as part of a Calibration service. The device stores the information from the external units that read in info and then a user can read that info from the logger or download it directly to a network or computer.

Because the logger unit works on its own, it offers many advantages. They are cheaper than larger computers and perform only one purpose, while being able to connect to any other sensor type equipment. This makes it ideal for leaving it in an off site location for the purpose of collecting data for analysis at a later date.

There are a number of different features that should be considered when deciding upon which logger unit to acquire. First, keep in mind what the unit will be used for, in other words, what is the purpose of the logger? This will determine how many inputs that you will need.

The amount of inputs will also determine the price of the unit that you will need to purchase. Also, consider the amount of storage that will be needed. Will this be a long term project that requires a year more amounts of information or will this be used for short run tests that do not require a large amount of storage?

How many tests will be run per hour is also another concern when deciding which logging unit to get. If you need it to store a number of tests, say, over 3000 an hour, then you will need one with a larger amount of memory. This will also raise the price of the item that one will need.

Regardless of the purpose, you should purchase one that is flexible and can store a lot of test info. When will you need to access the info? Because the unit does not have to be connected to a computer, it makes it highly functional for portability. However, if you need constant access to the information from a remote location, then you will need to have it attached to a laptop or computer with network or internet capability.

There are a number of factors to consider before making your purchase. If you find that you have purchased one that will not serve your needs, you can either have it upgraded or return it and select a higher grade model. The ability to return the unit may differ from vendor to vendor. Make sure to contact your vendor to determine the eligibility for return.

A data logger is an invaluable piece of equipment in testing. With so many units available, it is important to know which one will best suit your specific needs. Make sure to get one that performs all of the data storage functions that will be required. Also make sure that your testing equipment is totally compatible with the info storage unit that you select to serve your purposes.

Creating Optimum Conditions For Your Wine Collection

If you have a growing collection of wine, it may be time to think about constructing a wine cellar. Once upon a time the custom wine cellar was a rarity; today more and more wine lovers are learning about wine cellar construction or contracting the work out to those who know how to do the job well.

Wine storage rooms are more than a dark, cool place to store a collection of wine bottles. Today's custom wine cellar is a controlled environment where humidity and temperature are regulated to allow wine to correctly age without harm to corks, labels or the wine itself.

There are two styles of wine cellars. One is a room that has been specifically created to stock wine in the perfect conditions and the other is a stand-alone system that duplicates those conditions. A stand-alone wine cellar is not as valuable as a custom-built version, but some people like the aesthetics of a small cooled refrigerator over a custom wine cellar. Those who do choose a custom cellar have three simple considerations for proper creation.

Temperature Control and Venting

A wine room is used to store and age the wine in the bottle rather than maintaining it at a serving temperature. (A stand-alone wine chiller is excellent for carrying wine out of the cellar to store at serving temperatures.) Maturing wine is a balance of time, temperature and the chemical reactions that take place as an effect of the two.

Wine should be aged in conditions ranging between 55 and 65 percent humidity and a steady 55 degrees Fahrenheit, give or take one degree. Wine kept at higher temperatures will age sooner and wine experiences chemical reactions at higher temperatures that devalue the flavor over time.

In some parts of the country, homeowners with basements often discover that conditions are right for basic wine storage, but seasonal temperature and humidity variations ought to be avoided. The ideal storage solution is a custom-built or DIY-construction wine room with climate and humidity control using a wine cellar cooling component to maintain the temperature at a steady 55 degrees.

These components come in a range of sizes and the dimensions of your wine cellar room will dictate what size you need to get. Never select a wine cooling unit too small for your room; you may never get a steady, optimal storage temperature and the cooling system will become overtaxed trying to keep up.

Wine cooling units demand proper venting, and your wine cellar construction project requires either a hole in the wall to permit venting outdoors or enough vent space to mix warm air out of the room. Check the specs of your wine cooling component; most require a venting space at least two times as big as the wine room space itself.

Electrical power is also a concern. Custom wine cellar builders recommend a devoted power source to run a wine cellar refrigeration system. Those who choose to use a shared power source often find the unit overloading with blown fuses and other electrical issues.

Insulation and Vapor Barriers

The wine cooling system is only part of your climate control plan for a custom wine cellar; you also need a vapor barrier made of plastic sheeting used on the "hot" side of the wall. Some people enclose the interior of the wine cellar before placing the insulation, leaving the plastic loose so that insulation can be put between the studs in the wall. Wrap the ceiling and the walls, or your vapor barrier will be incomplete. Once the barrier is put in, the insulation will come next.

Good wine cellar building needs the right kind of insulation for your walls and ceiling. For example, if you are building a 2x6 wall, R19 insulation is recommended, but if you have a smaller wall of 2x4, R13 may be your best bet. (The "R" designation represents the heat resistance of the insulation.) Ceilings require R30. Custom wine cellar builders should never set up the insulation loose without packing the substance into the sections, as this decreases the insulation's effectiveness.

The next step is to install a kind of drywall called green board, which is moisture-resistant, making it a bit more expensive than regular drywall. Install an exterior-grade door to the wine cellar and your climate control plan is finished.

Lighting and UV Exposure Control

Wine is spoiled by UV exposure, which is why the bottles are most often constructed out of dark glass. Abstain from installing fluorescent bulbs in the wine cellar room, as they give off UV radiation. Control the intensity by using recessed lighting on a dimmer and avoid shining light straight on your wine bottles for long periods of time. Some wine display racks are made with sections that hide bottles from the light which can help lessen the exposure, but if your bottles are stowed in clear view, try to avoid the "spotlight" effect on your bottles.

Other Concerns

Almost any sort of flooring can be used in your custom wine cellar. If your home is big enough for a wine cellar tasting room to complement your cellar, you may want to give them both a matching look, but never use carpet and rugs in the cellar space. They simply can't hold up to the required humidity levels without giving away to mold. Mold growth will destroy your wine, as can any potent odor from chemicals or cheeses. A wine cellar should be used only to hold wine; keep food in a separate space.

At all times monitor the temperature and humidity in your wine cellar with an external sensor or gauge. By no means guess that the wine cooling component will always function correctly. A quick look at the external gauge can offer you early notice if the wine cooling unit is having problems, or if the unit is giving a faulty readout because of a bad sensor or other technical troubles.

Creating a custom wine room may call for some attention to the design demands of proper wine storage, but once properly built, you may discover that your collection grows quickly; it's easy to invest more money in wine when you know it will be held securely for maximum delight.

A Brief Overview of Data Logger Devices

Not so many years ago, if you wanted to record a set of changing data over a given time period, you would need to use a chart recorder. These are mechanical devices that work either with or without electrical power. Although these are still sometimes the best type of device for the job, they have been largely replaced by data logger devices.

A data logger is an electronic device that can either have its own built-in sensors, or that can retrieve data from external sensors. In general, they're small, battery-powered, and contain a microprocessor. They can be stand-alone devices, either with their own keyboards and displays, or that would hold data in memory for later retrieval via a normal computer. On computers, data may be either displayed by a proprietary program, or by Excel graph or spreadsheet. Newer models can also have wireless capabilities, enabling them to send a constant stream of data back to a base station.

Take a look on the web, and you'll find a wide range of data loggers, from the very inexpensive to ones that cost thousands of dollars. You'll find many different vendors, selling devices for just about any type of data that you can imagine.

Many vendors have prominent web-front stores, and sell a very large range of devices. There are devices for use by homeowners, electricians, weather researchers, network technicians, etc. It would seem that there's something there for pretty much everyone.

Homeowners may be interested in purchasing an energy audit or monitoring device. Several types are available, including one that can measure the power draw of an electrical appliance, and automatically calculate its annual energy cost. There's also a monitoring kit that enables you to constantly monitor room temperature throughout the house.

Logging devices for industrial or small business use include monitors for HVAC, greenhouses, refrigeration units, or air quality. Air quality monitors can keep a constant check on levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, or other gasses. Use these in closed spaces, where there may be a danger that these gasses may accumulate.

Fleet operators, such as taxi cab or trucking companies, may benefit from the automotive logging devices. These are small devices, which can be connected to a vehicle's OBD-II port. They can monitor engine performance, fuel economy, and how the vehicle is being driven. Some of these devices have wireless capabilities, allowing operators at a base station to see real-time data as vehicles are being driven. Auto mechanics can also make use of OBD-II devices when trying to diagnose engine problems.

For weather researchers, there are several types of monitoring solutions. Some are monitors for specific weather data, such as wind, temperature, humidity, soil moisture content, or rainfall. There are also complete weather monitoring stations, which can monitor multiple types of weather data.

Operators of mines or grain elevators, where combustible gas or dust may be a problem, would want to use an "intrinsically safe" monitoring device. These devices are guaranteed not to produce sparks that could cause an explosion.

When shopping for a monitoring solution, be aware of what's included in your purchase. Oftentimes, the price of the data logger device doesn't include the required sensors. So, you'll need to purchase them separately.

Facts You Need to Know About Fireplaces and Bellows

There are two main types of bellows such as formed bellows and welded bellows. Welded metal bellows find it's use in varied forms in different industries. Bellows are manufactured with systematic planning, product design, maintaining quality standards coupled with finite element and metallurgical analysis besides functional test and thermal tests. These welded metal bellows perform under stressful environment such as high pressure and extreme temperature. This characteristic helps metal bellows to act as temperature transducer.

Uses of metal bellows

Metal bellows and bellows valve have wide range of applications and benefits. First of, they are corrosion resistant, heat and pressure resistant, they enhance product longevity, ensure cleanliness at the work place, offers much sought flexibility, come with better sealing performance and last they are compatible to extreme environment conditions including salt spray, high humidity as well as corrosive fluids.

Different types of bellows and bellow products

Some of the bellow products include accumulators, surge arrestors, reservoirs which are used in fluid management technologies. These welded bellows differ in function but still come with similar construction.

Each of these bellow components consist of an outer containment, internal bellows separator and ports either in one side or in both sides depending upon application. The bellows act as separator that is welded on one end of the containment. The other end of the bellow is closed and it slides through containment as the bellows contracts and expands with the fluid system. Depending upon the need and the application, the fluid can be either inside the bellows or even outside like between the bellows and the containment

Some welded bellows act as temperature sensors, pressure sensors, aneroid sensors and also transducers such as military temperature transducer and aerospace temperature transducer. Depending upon application, the metal bellows are used and they can function as valve seals, vibration dampeners and pressure and temperature sensors. In case of pressure transducers two small bellows are generally joined with a capillary tube.

The gas-filled bellows are used in air density controls, fuel controls and in pressure chamber. It is the liquid filled bellows that find wide application in the field of transducers such as temperature-motion transducer, temperature-force transducer, motion-motion transducer and many more.

These transducers act to transform one form of energy into another and it is the welded metal bellows that actually aid in the altitude sensing system, cockpit cooling system and thermal control for optical application system.

Bellows and related products find their usage in industries such as aerospace, oil, gas and chemical, military and defense, electrical transmission and distribution and devices in research and scientific laboratories besides finding wide industrial applications.

For your information, in the present day commercial aircrafts, space programs and even in case of unmanned aircrafts it is the welded metal bellows, accumulators and reservoirs that act perfectly for optimal performance and efficiency. The aerospace temperature transducer will find utility specifically the aircraft programs. Check out http://www.flexial.com/ for even more information on bellows.

Controlling a Greenhouse Environment

Once you have put up your greenhouse, it is time to make it do what it was intended to do - foster the rapid and healthy growth of the plants inside it. The strength of a greenhouse lies in the ability to control the climactic conditions inside.

One such significant climactic condition is temperature. You need to have the right temperature if you are to realize optimal plant growth. Light is another important consideration. Note that one climactic factor may have an impact on another. For instance, too much sunlight inside the greenhouse can raise the indoor temperature beyond the appropriate levels.

There are a number of actions you can take to manage the impact of external weather changes to the greenhouse's internal atmospheric conditions.

a. Ventilation - Every greenhouse should be built with two forms of ventilation in mind - natural and artificial ventilation. For natural ventilation, you need only appropriately position a number of outlets and inlets to allow the natural flow of air in and out of the greenhouse. Electricity may or may not be used but this would only be for controlling opening and closing the inlets or outlets. While natural ventilation is a great cost saver, it is ineffective in locations with high outdoor temperatures.

And this is where automatic ventilation comes in. Auto-ventilation regulates indoor temperatures using electricity powered louvers and exhaust fans. The difference between automatic ventilation and electricity-powered natural ventilation is that the former is usually part of a larger air conditioning system that detects temperature and powers the louvers and fans accordingly.

b. Cooling - When ventilation alone is inadequate to manage the temperature within the greenhouse, a different approach is required. Two common strategies used to control temperature and that can augment ventilation are: fog systems and pad-and-fan systems.

Fog systems use nozzles installed every 50 to 100 feet in the greenhouse to evenly distribute a cooling 'fog'. It is expensive because clean water must be used to prevent the tiny mouth of each nozzle from getting blocked.

Pad-and-fan technology goes hand in hand with automatic ventilation. Evaporative pads are installed at air inlets and cool the air entering the greenhouse. The cool air circulates within the greenhouse picking heat in the process before it is pulled out via the exhaust fans.

c. Humidity - Humidity must be kept in check to prevent plants from succumbing to disease. High moisture content in greenhouse air increases the amount of condensation on plants thus hampering respiration. High humidity is also a breeding ground for pests and fungal plant diseases. To better manage humidity, the vapour pressure deficit (VPD) must be measured regularly and maintained at the optimum level of 0 to 1 psi. VPD is a calculation of atmospheric humidity versus the humidity at which water condensation will start.

d. Shading - Shading is a means of temperature and light control that uses automatically operated shades or blinders. The shades close when there is too much sunlight during the day or if warm temperature needs to be retained in the greenhouse at night. A sensor detects internal temperature and triggers the shades' opening or closing.

Black Mold Removal

House cleaning is one of the tasks we do not enjoy very much. It is long, laborious and well, dirty. However, it is something that you really have to do unless you are willing to settle in a house that is filthy and unorganized. When house cleaning, it is appropriate to set aside ample time for this task, say a whole day, especially if you have a large house. It is also great to enlist the help of other family members for this task.

It is extremely important for the whole house to be clean in order to avoid sickness, allergies or infections. Pests, another culprit, can be remedied by using Riddex and Pest Offense. Most ailments start from the house. Keep in mind that a clean house is a safe house.

Removing Black Growth

Black mold growth is one of the most common dirt found in the house. Mold is a problem that can stick around forever if not treated properly the first time. Black mold is very toxic and can cause sickness and even death in certain cases.

Removing mold completely is the only way to rid your home of the spores and dust. Learn how to remove black mold and keep your home safe. Black mold removal and mold and mildew removal can be a little difficult but there are tips and techniques you can apply to make the work faster and more efficient.

Removing Black Mold in the House

· It is very important to know the source of the water accumulation. Fixing it is the first step of the successful removal of black mold. If you have a high relative humidity in a room or area (55% or higher), then you should strongly consider a dehumidifier. To determine the relative humidity, you will need a relative humidity sensor, also known as a moisture meter or hygrometer. If there is a water leak or a severe flooding, use fans and humidifiers. Move wet items away from walls and off the floor. You have to address the problem quickly so that the damage will not go too fat. It only takes 24-48 hours for toxic mold to germinate and grow. Contaminated areas should be remedied quickly.

· Minimize dust and seal off affected areas. Before cleaning and removing the mold, take necessary measures to prevent the mold from spreading. Mold spores become airborne during the cleaning process so contain the area being cleaned.

Each room should be cleaned separately. Seal the room off before beginning the cleaning process. Cleaning, as mentioned earlier, can stir up the mold so it is vital to prevent them from disseminating. Once spores become airborne, they can quickly spread to other areas to germinate and colonize. A room can be properly sealed by using plastic sheeting with duct tape to cover various openings, such as doors and vents. Turn off all HVAC systems before cleaning.

· Toxic black mold removal on a dry area can be done by lightly misting the area with water before cleaning the mold. Dry mold has a much greater chance of becoming airborne when disturbed. After lightly misting the surface, clean the affected area with soap and then apply a disinfectant black mold remover. Mold spores are microscopic so make sure to clean all surfaces. After cleaning the area, it must be completely dried.

· Remove and discard mold-infected materials by throwing them into heavy-duty plastic bags. Get the bags outside a window or other openings accessible to the room being cleaned.

How to Protect Your Health during Mold Cleanup

It is of enormous importance to protect you and minimize exposure during the cleaning process. It is not recommended for a person who has asthma or other allergies to do the clean up for they are very vulnerable. Black mold removal cost need not be exacerbated by health risks.

Wear a respirator. Wear a dust mask to protect against inhalation of mold spores. Choose a respirator that is specifically designed for particle removal.

1. Clothing. Wear protective clothing that can be easily removed and cleaned. Use a suit that will cover the entire body to prevent any skin exposure. You should also wear rubber gloves and eye goggles.

2. Evacuate. Ask family members to leave the area during cleanup.

3. Rest in between cleaning. If the area to be cleaned is quite large, make sure to rest in an area where there is fresh air.

Keeping your home clear of vermin and germs is important for your family's health. Go learn more about black mold removal and mold and mildew removal in general to keep your children safe from these deadly microorganisms.

6 Main Digital Camera Enemies

1. Sand and Dust

There is nothing that frightens me more than the thought of sand getting into my camera. Cameras have moving parts and to get something as gritty and abrasive as sand into them can quickly put your camera out of action or at least damage it so that you end up with scratches through it.

Ultimately the only protection against sand is not taking your camera to sandy places. Of course this is not particularly feasible and you'll need to do what you can to keep sand and your camera separate.

Sealable bags are great to travel with, cleaning brushes to get those stray grains off your camera can be useful and cleaning clothes are helpful.

Always be particularly aware of your surrounds and things like wind or people kicking balls or throwing Frisbees when you're changing lenses, memory cards and batteries as these are high risk moments that sand just loves to swoop in. Also - learn to think ahead about what lens you might need so that you can change it inside in a more stable environment before hitting the beach.

Dust is a more subtle attacker in that it generally won't scratch your moving parts - but it is just as damaging, particularly when it works its way into your camera's inner parts and settles on your image sensor.

Also if you have a DSLR consider getting it's image sensor professionally cleaned (or learn to do it yourself - with care) every now and again if you do find marks on your sensor (you'll notice them most at small apertures - to test it, set your camera to it's smallest aperture and shoot at a white wall or ceiling).

2. Moisture and Water Moisture attacks cameras in numerous ways.

At it's most extreme it attacks as water which has the ability to quickly end the life of your camera (I regularly get emails from digital camera owners who've dropped cameras in all kinds of liquids including the ocean, baths, rivers and even toilets). Use you camera's wrist or neck straps to keep your cameras out of water and always be aware of where you put it an how it can be knocked.

A more subtle attacker when it comes to moisture is condensation. Particularly noticeable is when you move from one temperature to another with your camera (for example from air-conditioning to humid ones). Investing in silica gel packs is one way to help with this as they absorb moisture in your camera bag. Some people suggest putting it in a sealed plastic bag when moving between temperatures - this might work well but is not particularly practical in many situations, especially when you have a large camera. Ideally you want to warm your camera up naturally and slowly - it's definitely a challenge. Other than that - wipe off your camera regularly when in humid environments.

3. Salt

While the beach presents photographers with wonderful photographic opportunities it also can be a dangerous place with many digital camera predators - not the least of which is salt which has a habit of getting into your camera and lenses and causing all kinds of problems (including corrosion).

Fight the impact that salt has on your camera by wiping it clean at least once per day while shooting in salty places.

If you have a DSLR use UV filters on your lenses to give an extra level of protection and avoid opening your camera up (to change batteries, memory cards or lenses) as much as possible. When not shooting, keep your camera safely in your camera bag and be particularly aware of positioning yourself in sea spray on windy days.

4. Sunscreen and Insect Repellent

It is important to protect yourself from the elements of sun and insect bites when shooting outdoors, however some of the things that you'll use to do it can cause your camera harm. Sunscreen is generally oily and insect repellent often contains chemicals that you wouldn't want to get in touch with the more delicate parts of your camera.

The way to limit the impact that these things have on your camera is pretty obvious and largely involves keeping those parts of your body that come into contact with these things clean. Wash your hands in fresh water after applying sunscreen and repellent and you'll go a long way to keeping your camera clean. If you do get your camera greasy make sure you clean it off as quickly as you can.

Lastly - don't fall into the temptation of putting sunscreen and repellent into your camera bag. I know it's tempting so that you don't have to carry another bag - but it's really not worth the risk as a leak could end your camera's life. If you do travel with them together make sure you have a sealed bag for the liquids.

5. Thieves

Another enemy of expensive photographic equipment is the thief when you least expect it will swoop in and steal your gear away from you - leaving you feeling frustrated, violated and wondering what you did to deserve it.

Always be aware of where your gear is and how accessible it is to others. Get yourself a camera bag that doesn't scream 'I've got an expensive camera in here!', for instance with big labels "Nikon", "Canon" etc.

Keep your cameras on your body if in a risky environment, keep your bags zipped up and well fastened, consider having your bag on your front rather than your back in high risk situations, insure your gear and try to be selective and not every travel with too much of it at any one time.

6. Bumps and Drops The downfall of many cameras comes quite literally when they are dropped or bumped into other hard objects. While some cameras now come with shock proof casings the majority of cameras do not and need to be treated as delicate objects.

Use a padded camera bag or casing (and use it when your camera is not in use, be aware of where you put your camera, be careful when passing it from one person to another etc. Also check your house and contents insurance to see whether it covers accidental damage (many do). It's just common sense really but I'm quite amazed at how often silly accidents end the lives of expensive pieces of equipment.

A Data Logger Is Useful For Information Gathering

A very handy device that can be utilized for many purposes is a data logger. You've seen the name mentioned all over and may have been curious what application they serve and if it might be something that you might have use for.

Otherwise known as a data recorder, they can be either wired or wireless depending upon which one you are buying and what for. Costs can range from double digit inexpensive models to hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

You can purchase a simple data logger that will work through basic measurement applications or can be directed to specific types of measurements. They can be used for sensors for temperature information from anything from home to business applications that need to maintain a specific temperature.

Often used for a humidity sensor they can sample up to a twenty four hour span of time to check variables. Many will offer an alarm status as well as display present readings and a minimum or maximum allowable humidity or reading.

If a calibration service is used in conjunction with the apparatus, that will ensure accurate readings which may be essential to what your are measuring. What this entails is the verified readings from your device and any variance from the nations standards. It is advisable to have your data logger serviced yearly to maintain proper function.

Your testing equipment may seem like a small device but its performance is a necessary one for many services. They are useful to log voltage or current, humidity, temperature, power analysis, pressure, light and so many more applications.

Choosing the Right Temperature Monitoring Solutions For Your Home

A comfortable home does not only mean a house that is adorned with precious china, shiny marble and made with high-quality construction materials. It can be any kind of home, as long as it is safe and secure for its residents to live in. A comfortable house would also mean one that was built to keep heat and extreme temperatures away from building up inside it. As such, it is one that is carefully insulated to make sure that heat does not stay within the house; because if it does, it would not be very fitting for people to live in, would it?

Most homes are insulated using the best methods and tools available to make sure that heat is not trapped within its walls; however, not all homes have been carefully insulated by their builders. Humid temperature within one's house is not only dangerous to its residents, but it could also destroy your personal assets faster since heat and electronics do not go well together. The minute pieces within your most precious appliances, such as computers and laptops, will not be able to withstand heat as well as dust that are usually carried by heat.

Due to heat, you would have to spend time and money for the maintenance of your computers, television, and other appliances. Your cooling costs could rise in the process and if your electronic assets are not repaired soon enough, they could stay damaged permanently. It is important to follow steps in taking care of fragile electronic devices to make sure they last longer and perform better too.

Aside from dust, heat is also one of the factors that can lead to the malfunction of electronic machines and devices. If a certain device is left unattended, heat could destroy the item as well as affect its environment. For example, an overheating flat iron could explode and cause a fire. Not only is it important to know the temperature of your devices, you also need to know how to keep them at the right temperature.

If you are a homeowner, knowing how to control the heat from your home could help you cut down on electricity consumption for your cooling systems. Not only is it heavy on your appliances, it also weighs heavily in your pocket. What you need is a system that can provide you a record of temperature changes within your home to know whether you will need to use your cooling devices or if you need to get your home shielded from heat build-up.

A temperature monitor can alert you when the hottest changes in temperature will occur and what temperatures you should be expecting later on during the day. This will give you time to prepare and oversee your power consumption and use of your appliances.

Choose a temperature alert system that never fails. Temperature@lert is the low-cost, high-performance way to know about critical changes in temperature before it's too late. For details on accurate temperature monitoring, visit http://TemperatureAlert.com today!

Time Saving Tips For Installing Your Wireless Security Camera System

It is no longer necessary to contract with an expensive surveillance company to provide your family with the protection of a wireless security camera system. Forget about waiting for the technician to arrive and then paying a steep monthly fee. Consider instead going online to purchase and install a system yourself.

For simplicity's sake, the complete security system kit is the way to go. Everything needed is included in the box set and all you need to get started are some simple tools usually found in every home. Do take the time to carefully read ALL of the instructions before you begin the installation process for your wireless security camera system.

Alkaline batteries are a good choice for security systems. Most home system sensors operate with batteries and the alkaline variety last a long time. This will save you the trouble of having to change the batteries often once the system is in place.

Window and door sensors can be installed using double-sided tape and this can make shorter work during the installation process. Consider however the weather factors in your area, double-sided tape does not do as well in humid conditions and may cause the magnetic contacts to come off, triggering the alarm. Taking the additional time to install sensors with screws could be well worth the effort.

Give careful consideration to the placement of the cameras indoors. Pets and children can wreak havoc with your system's operation and today's ultra-small cameras can be a bon-bon to a large dog. Consider your propensity to open and close windows when it comes to installing individual window sensors.

Installing a wireless security camera system can be a bit of a challenge. Taking the time to read the instructions carefully and pre-planning your installation sites is key. The satisfaction of knowing that your family is safe and secure is well worth the time and effort.

Arduino Temperature, Humidity and Dew Point Via Hurimel HS1101 Sensor Interface

A great option for adding temperature and humidity (and dew point) measurement to the Arduino (and freeduino) is to use the Hurimel HS1101 sensor.? It is packages as a small board, approximately 1" x 2" with 4 screw terminals.

The only electrical connections are these 4 - 1 for ground, and 3 I/O pins used on the Arduino - 1 analog and 2 digital.?? The pin references used in this article are taken from a Freeduino BBB board.

The 4 pins on the Hurimel are THERM, PULSE, GND and V+.?? Besides a connection to ground on the Arduino, 3 additional pins will be required - an analog and 2 digital pins.? One digital pin is used to provide power (+5VDC), in this example, pin 2 is connected to the V+ screw terminal on the Hurimel.?? Digital pin 5 can be used to count the pulses, connected to the PULSE screw terminal on the Hurimel.? Finally an analog input is required for the temperature reading.? Analog pin A5 on the Arduino connected to the THERM screw terminal on the Hurimel.? Note that a 10k resistor must also be placed between 5V and analog pin A5 on the Arduino.

In summary, the electrical connections in this example are:?

Arduino BBB digital pin 2? -- Hurimel V+ screw terminal
digital pin 5 -- Hurimel PULSE terminal.
GND pin/connection -- Hurimel GND terminal.
Arduino BBB analog pin A5 -- Hurimel THERM terminal.
analog pin A5 -- 10k resistor -- Arduino BBB GND +5v DC pin/connection

In a future article, the Arduino source code required to read the temperature, humidity and dew point measurements will be discussed.

The Truth About Vent Free Gas Heating Appliances

Millions of people worldwide are enjoying the benefits of heating their living spaces with vent-free gas heaters, logs, fireplaces, and stoves.

Why choose vent free?

Vent free (unvented) heaters are 99% energy efficient! That's because all of the usable heat energy goes into the space. No heat is wasted through a flue to the outside air. Therefore, they cost just pennies an hour to operate and can save consumers a bundle in heating costs during the cold months.

Furthermore, unvented heaters supply supplemental heat where you need it, when you need it, allowing for lower central heating demands in areas such as family rooms, dens, kitchens, dining rooms and bathrooms. They are ideal for hard-to-heat areas such as basements, room additions, sun porches or utility rooms.

Are vent free heaters safe? What about indoor air quality (IAQ)?

Here's a little chemistry 101. We know that perfect combustion of fuel (natural or propane gas) produces carbon dioxide and water. Properly installed and maintained vent free heaters fall into that category of nearly perfect, complete combustion. As long as there is adequate ventilation to the space, these products of combustion are considered natural and non-toxic. We deal with these elements to some degree every day.

What if oxygen levels are too low or carbon dioxide levels are too high?

That can produce toxic levels of carbon monoxide (CO), which could affect a person's health. The good news is that an oxygen depletion sensor (ODS) built into all vent free appliances designed for dwelling spaces of the home guarantees that the oxygen levels never drop below 18 percent. Therefore, even if someone fails to follow proper ventilation guidelines, it is unlikely that lethal levels of CO could ever occur.

From a combustion safety viewpoint, properly sized and maintained vent free heaters are excellent for most spaces. However, consumers need to know that the combustion process produces water. A 20,000 BTU vent free heater will produce about ¼ gallon of water into a living area each hour.

Is water vapor a pollutant?

Not in moderate amounts. Too much, however, could increase a person's susceptibility to upper respiratory disorders. On the other hand, so can air that is too dry, especially during the winter months where relative humidity indoors can be quite low. Note that many people feel that the extra humidity actually makes them feel healthier and alleviates the need to add some type of humidifier. A vent free heater can provide that extra needed humidity.

If you notice excessive condensation on windows and other cold surfaces, or in wall cavities, that is a good indicator that you don't have enough fresh air to offset the water vapor being emitted into your space. This can occur in a home environment even without a vent free appliance operating. There are other producers of humidity inside the average house such as washing machines, dryers, bathrooms kitchens and people.

Ventilation into every home is important. As the old adage states "the solution to pollution is dilution". Infiltration of outside air is good. Some newer homes are so tight that mechanical ventilation must be added to sufficiently keep concentrations of combustion products and other contaminants at low levels.

The truth is, vent free heaters are, in and of themselves, extremely safe, economical to operate and, when properly sized and maintained, are proven to meet today's rigorous standards for air quality. And as long as consumers demand energy-saving products, the future of vent-free appliances looks very bright indeed.

A qualified vent free appliance dealer will ask all the right questions to help you determine the appropriate amount of BTU's needed to heat your space and give helpful guidelines for ensuring safe, trouble-free operation.

Bathroom Exhaust Fan And Energy Efficiency

What a Bathroom Exhaust Fan has to do With Energy Efficiency

Most people don't pay much attention to bathroom exhaust fans until the boogers and cobwebs are hanging half way down to the commode. When the fan gets plugged up, energy efficiency is lost and the exhausting power of the fan is reduced to almost nothing. The normally efficient fan motor heats up, wastes electricity, and applies unneeded expense to the power bill. If your bathroom exhaust fan cover looks like a Kansas dust bowl and the fan motor will no longer hold up a piece of toilet tissue, it's time for a little preventive maintenance.

What is a bathroom exhaust fan?

Mounted in your bathroom ceiling or exterior wall, the bathroom exhaust is given the job of removing moist or awkwardly perfumed air from the room. If moist warm air remains in the room - the possible occurrence of mold and mildew is greatly increased. By removing the moist warm air produced by a shower or bath, the relative humidity is reduced as is the possibility of mold. And, of course, removing the awkwardly perfumed air from the bathroom simply allows the bathroom to be used by the next person sooner.

Does a bathroom fan have a rating system?

Yes, a bathroom fan is rated according to cubic feet per minute ( cfm ) and according to how noisy they are. A less expensive apartment model will be rated at 50 cfm and about 4.0 sones. 4 Sones is the sound of a normal T.v., 3 Sones like office noise, 1 Sone is the sound of a refrigerator, and 0.5 sones like rustling leaves.

Some bathroom exhaust fans have humidity sensors that turn the fan on when moist air is present and then turn the fan off when the air is refreshed and no longer holds noticeable moisture.

Which bathroom exhaust fan would be best for my bathroom?

I would recommend a bathroom exhaust fan rated at 100 cfm or more and a sone level of something around the level of rustling toilet paper. I would also recommend you install a timer switch so you can leave the fan running after you leave the bathroom and have the fan turn itself off about 20 minutes later.

A ceiling fan has a duct attached that is designed to take the warm moist air and discharge it into the great outdoors. Be sure the duct is firmly attached to the fan and that the duct terminates outside and not just into the attic space.

How does a fan waste energy and increase my power bill?

Ceiling fans are dust collectors. Combine the flow of exhausting air with the moisture content of the air and you have a dust collecting system. One, the fan is good at collecting and holding dust, grit and grime and two, the ceiling fan is mounted in the ceiling and hard to see and hard to reach and clean. The ceiling fan becomes the forgotten appliance.

With accumulating dust, the motor and fan will struggle to maintain speed and effectiveness. The motor works harder, runs longer, gets hotter and uses more electricity than it needs to. The exhaust fan turns slower and the electric meter spins faster.

Recently, I was in a home where the homeowner insisted the bathroom fan was working well. I stood under the fan, a test square of toilet paper at the ready, as he turned the fan on. You know how an electric motor can make a humming sound and not do anything. He thought the fan was working since it made a nice humming sound, but the fan was not turning and not exhausting anything. I held the TP square up to the fan and then watched it gentle float to the floor.

Can a ceiling fan earn the Energy Star Efficiency Rating?

Yes, ceiling exhaust fans are rated by the Energy Star program and can earn an Energy Star rating. As with any appliance, look for the Energy Star rating and then look further to see how efficient the appliance is within that rating. One Energy Star ceiling fan maybe noticeably more efficient than another Energy Star rated fan.

Do remember, to maintain that efficiency, the fan needs to be installed and ducted correctly.

Barometric Pressure and How It Affects Animals

Barometric pressure has a direct effect on the life around us. The amount of atmospheric pressure is constantly changing and sudden changes can create health issues such as migraines in people to affecting behavior in animals. Barometric pressure is a highly searched criteria reaching around 201,000 times a month on average within the United States and achieving over 300,000 searches with the spelling of barometric pressure.

Barometric pressure measures the amount of downward force that the atmosphere exerts within a specific air column. Barometric pressure travels in terms of peaks, flats and valleys and will rise and fall accordingly. Atmospheric pressure is a key means to predicting weather 12 to 24 hours in advance and has a 70% accuracy rate. Pressure sensors will detect a drop in atmospheric pressure as inclement weather approaches. Typically, pressure drops in front of a weather system and then will rise as the weather systems moves out of the area. High pressure typically entails bright, blue, clear days or nights while normal pressure periods results in scattered clouds. As the atmospheric pressure gauge drops, expect increasing clouds and possibly storms as the atmospheric pressure continues to drop.

As people may feel the effects of barometric pressure changes in terms of ear pain, dizziness or headaches, animals too are affected by pressure changes. Many animals rely on scent and scent is highly dependent on atmospheric pressure. When low pressure is in the area, scent will travel further and higher in the atmosphere but as the millibars continues to drop resulting in rain, fog or snow, the scent will hug the ground and last longer. On high pressure days, scent will dissipate quickly.

The overall relationship between barometric pressure and changing weather conditions results in changes in animal behavior. Hunters and anglers alike monitor the sudden drops in millibars to predict an increase in animal movement. This increase in movement can be attributed to the animals or fish expecting inclement weather and survival instincts to feed and stock up on energy to survive a period of discomfort associated with long lasting storms.

Hunters, anglers and those sensitive to changes in barometric pressure may benefit from monitoring and tracking barometric pressure readings from gauges and at home weather stations. There are several types of pressure sensors and monitors that are available on the market. The prices range on eBay from a few dollars to hundreds of dollars for high end at home weather stations that come with a variety of external sensors for gauging wind direction, barometric pressure, temperature, and humidity. The barometric pressure sensor on many models tracks the past 24 hours of pressure readings that allow the user to determine if pressure is stable, rising or dropping at any given time. The following devices are popular for the climate monitoring enthusiast:

The Honeywell TE923 is a Deluxe Weather Station that cost from $200 to $300 from Amazon.com and utilizes external sensors such as the barometric pressure sensor, temperature and humidity sensors, UV sensor for measuring harmful UV levels and wind and rain sensors.

MFJ 196RC Deluxe Wireless Atomic Weather Station is offered on eBay for slightly below $200 and also utilizes external climate sensors for measuring and displaying barometric pressure changes, wind direction, temperature and humidity.

One of the downfalls of these types of home weather stations is the difficulty in storing these measurements. All of the monitors that I have seen across eBay and amazon display roughly the same information with the same graphics. While the Honeywell weather station stores 24 hours of atmospheric pressure readings, the MFJ weather station stores 12 to 20 hours of readings. From what I can tell, these popular models do not write each data point to an external system or within its memory for long term analysis. Don't let that hold you back from exploring or purchasing one of these weather stations as the NOAA collects this types of data from across the country. I believe you can subscribe to their feed and bring in historical and current data for a specific area.

Spending the time and money to monitor and track barometric pressure changes can help determine the type of behavior animals will exhibit. By understanding how rises and drops of barometric pressure readings will influence animal behavior, a hunter or angler will be able to more effectively prepare their strategy on how to hunt or fish.

Additional Thermostat Necessities - Sensors, Humidistats, Subbases, And More!

Have you recently purchased a new thermostat and are interested in keeping it in top condition? Perhaps you need that extra boost for your thermostat control, such as added humidity control, but are not interested in purchasing a whole new thermostat. There are several additional pieces that you may need or simply want for your home comfort control that can benefit your thermostat system. Read on to learn more about pieces you can easily find for yours!

Subbases: Thermostat subbases are usually included with your original thermostat, and if you took apart your thermostat, you would see the subbase already there. However, certain models require a subbase, and sometimes older models require that the subbase be purchased separately. With a conductive grid, the subbase connects heating and cooling mechanisms from your home systems to your thermostat face.

Lock Boxes: A thermostat lock box, also referred to as a thermostat guard, or cover, is simply a protective device for keeping your thermostat safe. Usually lock boxes come in mini, small, medium, or large sizes so that fitting to your exact make and model of thermostat is not a problem. There are of course, lock boxes specifically designed for a certain thermostat. Lock boxes can come in colors or solid white, to hide a dull looking thermostat, or in clear to solely serve as thermostat protection without altering the look of your thermostat. Lock boxes can be locked with keys to stop others from changing your temperature settings and raising your electric bills without your knowledge! Some come with tamper-resistant locks, so the key cannot be removed easily.

Temperature Sensors: Sensors are used with a thermostat to accurately tell and relay surrounding temperatures. There are several types to choose from such as bi-metal, electronic thermistors, and electrical thermocouples. With a temperature sensor, it is possible to relay outdoor temperatures and various temperatures throughout your home easily and quickly, all from a central location.

Humidity Sensors: A humidistat is a device that allows your thermostat to direct not only temperature, but also humidity levels. Like a temperature sensor, a humidity sensor is simply a recording device to give your thermostat the ability to control these two functions simultaneously for ultimate comfort levels in a home.
