Monitoring Temperature And Humidity Inside The Server Rack

The increased utilization of blade servers has caused the control of heat and humidity in the server racks to become much more critical than previously. These units increase the density of the equipment in each rack and therefore the heat generated. Alarms are necessary at the rack level because a single server overheating will not raise the ambient room temperature enough to set off the room alarm sensors. These rack alarms can provide early problem warning and prevent server damage and the associated network problems in a timely fashion.

These alarms can be at the rack, or by email, or by SNMP traps, or by all three methods depending on the system. There are several different types of sensor systems from several different manufacturers, available at present. One of them is a compact environmental monitor with one onboard temperature sensor and in addition the ability to support up to 16 remote sensors. The system is very small so you don't have to change your system. If you receive a problem alert, you are able to identify the rack and power strip having the trouble, and turn off the individual outlet or reboot it.

Another power management and control system available is able to track temperature, humidity, airflow, and water at various locations from 15 to 100 feet away. This system needs only limited rack space and can control individual power receptacles. Another system on the market utilizes two sensor probes in each rack, one in front, one in back, to better measure the environment in the rack. This gives you a thermographic view of the temperature range in the rack and can be displayed in color for all the different racks in the computer center. This information can be used to determine the size and location of any additional A.C. or fans or blowers needed to correct a cooling system. It can also assist in the rearrangement, if necessary, of the rack layout and separation of a cold aisle/hot aisle system or any rack system, or when additional racks are added to a functioning system.

The control of heat generation and temperature in the data center continues to be one of the most critical areas. The monitoring of the environment has gone from the room, to the zone, to inside the individual server rack to give a much more precise picture of what is happening and allow better response to emergency conditions.

Humidity Analyzers And Temperature Sensors Explained

Humidity analyzers, also popularly referred to as moisture sensors or hygrometers, together with temperature sensors are technical gadgets that not only play an important role in various and diverse manufacturing and industrial processes but also are incorporated in many ordinary home appliances we probably have at home.

Humidity Sensors

In industrial and manufacturing environments, moisture sensors are highly sophisticated technical gadgets that enable factory operators as well as industry managers make sure that the product being produced is being manufactured within acceptable levels of humidity. Industries need to comply with high industry quality standards and hygrometers help them in this task. From the human and pet food industry to chemical and pharmaceutical labs, to the wood and leather industry, these devices have multiple uses. For instance, they are useful to determine if the potato chips are packed crispy, if the breakfast cereal will be crunchy and tasty when we eat it every morning and that the chemical compounds used to prepare a certain medicine have not lost their healing properties as result of being exposed to a too dry or wet environment.

In industrial environments there isd usually more than one moisture analyzer set up to monitor the humidity content of the product being manufactured as the acceptable range may vary from step to step of the manufacturing process. In order to make sure that the product complies with the quality standards, a sample is taken and weighed. Then it is introduced in the moisture analyzer and dried. Once dried it is weighed again. The difference between the two weights tell the operator if the environment is dry enough or if further changes need to be made.

As regards home appliances, the air conditioner has a moisture sensor that helps the device know when the air conditioned room has reached the desire level of dryness. Whenever it starts getting humid again, the hygrometer automatically triggers the air conditioner again. Many clothes dryers also come with hygrometers and they help women make sure that their clothes are dried efficiently without being over exposed to dryness.

Antique shops also have moisture analyzers as they are useful to protect relics and antiques from the devastating effect of humidity.

Temperature Sensors Temperature sensors are also more popularly known as thermometers. In clothes dryers they are very helpful as they can be used to make sure that the delicate clothes fibers are not exposed to overheat unnecessarily.

Summer: A Season of Humidity and Air Woes

Prevalent significant problems concerning fast growing molds in schools have been a growing concern for school administrators and maintenance teams, particularly during summer breaks. While more prevalent in the warmer, more humid climate of the southeastern region of the United States, it is also a concern of the states that sit in the eastern region of the Rocky Mountains.

It is speculated that these problems are due to a certain set of prevailing factors. One of the most prevalent causes is the absence of circulating air. During summer breaks, when the school is somewhat vacant, the HVAC system that is used for cooling is substantially reduced in operation and in some areas of the building is turned off altogether. Another reason for increased mold growth during this time is that the humidity in outside air in these regions tends to increase during the summer months. Additionally, other maintenance activities such as painting, cleaning of carpets and resealing floors are usually done during these breaks when students and school staff are not present. When this occurs, maintenance of the HVAC system often falls to the wayside, as school breaks are a more opportune time to conduct other maintenance tasks.

In an effort to reduce the occurrence of mold during summer breaks, some schools are revamping the design of their HVAC system to specify the necessary controls that will better control the introduction of humid outdoor air in to the occupied space. For places in these schools where occupancy sensors are being used to detect and control the usage of lights like in the administrators' offices or comfort rooms, automated outdoor air dampers are advised. The installation of switches or timers, which close the dampers and can be operated manually, is another way to accomplish this task. However, this solution involves some complexities that could potentially result in more serious mold problems.

Another issue for consideration is the manual thermostat overrides. The staff and teachers can easily activate the HVAC system while working during non-standard hours such as weekends, holiday breaks, or evenings when an override for each manual is being provided. A simple override button will provide occupants the environmental comfort for a present period of time, usually anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. This would work two-fold in that it would provide a comfortable temperature to the occupants as well as circulating air within the building thus reducing the occurrence of moisture in the air that can lead to mold.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) sensors should also be taken into consideration during summer periods. These sensors can do the responsibilities of controlling the outdoor air dampers when the occupancy in that certain area may be discontinuous, fluctuate or be nonexistent.

The Environmental Protection Agency has an extensive website, chock full of information regarding mold in the schools. The website, http://www.epa.gov/mold/i-e-r.html, has practical advice that is easily assimilated and understood. The information gleaned from this site can help schools improve the IAQ in the classroom.

The Importance Of The Humidity Sensor

A humidity sensor is a device that measures the comparative humidity in a certain area. While it is complicated, it is also important to our daily life. We will discuss how it works, and how our daily life is affected by it. Also, we will be describing the details of different prototypes.

Affiliated with humidity is water, and sensors are usually electronic, so we know that much. There are two types, an analog and digital sensor. For an mechanical one, three components are necessary. First, the exterior is made out plastic. Secondly, there is a small capacitor in the interior made of film-like glass or ceramics. The interior is insulated by a polymer. For a digital sensor, microchips are used instead of a capacitor and polymer.

Polymer is a topic in itself. It has a biological synthesis which is perfect for absorbing and emitting. This affects the analog, making it intellectually simpler. The amount of water vapor in the air, is then absorbed by the polymeric material. This polymer then emits water based on the relative water vapors. This changes the electric scale of the capacitor which shifts the analog.

A digital sensor contains various chips. Some are in essence a data Logger, and others are converters. There is also a tiny analog in between the various chips. The Data Logger chips, through an analog, digitalizes the humidity. This information is then transferred to a chip which displays the information.

There are various deficiencies to the analog form. An analog contains a large amount of polymer so when the polymer wears away the entire balance changes. Also, since there are many components a calibration process is necessary. To configure many units together through trial and error is strenuous. Another problem is the electricity balance in the capacitor. This leads to increased spending on electronics, but that also means less money.

There are many benefits to the digital style. The interior does not consist of polymer, but rather it is used as a protective encasement. This allows for efficiency without collaboration. In addition to the longevity of the collaboration it is easily replaceable. In the analog form, polymer not only has to be replaced, it also has to be collaborated.

In our surroundings, we have embedded in our technology a humidity sensor. Our air condition needs it to determine how much the temperature needs to be lowered. Modern Dryers use them to stop the machine at the proper time. Cars, our daily transportation, have one located in the exhaust manifold to control in-car temperature. Cutting edge jets and shuttles use them to control oxygen and temperature levels. Now with advance technology we have even learned how to determine which crops a block of soil can sustain.

In a world with many new concepts and ideas, possible insignificant ideas are tossed. However a humidity sensor is part of technology. They are necessary to maintain the infrastructure of our daily life. They will represent the future. Whether it is the latest tablet, or laptop, they are here and present.

8 Steps to Measure the Relative Humidity in Concrete According to the ASTM Standard

Practical advice for measuring humidity

The most common source of error when measuring relative humidity is a difference between the temperature of the probe and the temperature of the environment. At a humidity condition of 50 % RH, a temperature difference of 1 °C (1.8 °F) typically results in an error of 3 % RH on relative humidity.

It is good practice to monitor the display of the moisture meter for temperature stability. The probe should be given sufficient time to come to equilibrium with the environment to be measured. The larger the initial temperature difference between the probe and the environment, the more time is required for temperature equilibrium.

In extreme situations, condensation may occur on the sensors when the probe is colder than the environment. As long as the humidity / temperature limits of the humidity sensor are not exceeded, condensation does not alter the calibration of the sensor. However, the sensor has to dry out before it can provide a valid measurement.

Step 1: Check the correct functionality of the instrument and probe using the humidity standard tube.

Step 2: Concrete floor slab and air space surroundings must be at service temperature / humidity for at least 48 hours.

Step 3: Define numbers of test holes

Step 4: Define depth of test holes

Step 5: Drill and prepare test holes

Step 6: Wait 72 hours for moisture equilibrium

Step 7: Measure

o Insert in-situ probe into sleeve

o Wait for temperature equilibrium

o Check for stable values

Step 8: Report all necessary information

The Importance of Humidity Inside of Your House

Humidity is the concentration of water in the air. This is very important to consider even when inside the home. You should monitor the levels of humidity in your home to keep them from getting too high or too low. Now that many people spend more and more of their time indoors, it is important that the conditions indoors are healthy.

What are the risks? If you would like to avoid mold/mildew, fungi, viruses, dust mites, harmful bacteria, termites and carpet ants, then you should monitor the level of humidity in you home. All of these things breed in moist, humid conditions. A runny nose, itchy eyes, increased chemical sensitivity, throat irritation and headaches can result from the development of these things because of high humidity and dampness, or low humidity and dryness inside of a home. High humidity in the home can make it more difficult to breath, which can cause fatigue. Low humidity is bad for your eyes and skin.

If you have wooden structures in your home, they can be damaged by expanding or contracting with the changes in moister in the surrounding air. Furniture can crack, weaken and develop mildew if not kept at the right humidity. When this happens, a poor smell can develop if not taken care of. You don't really want small green organisms taking over in your living room, do you?

If you have high levels of humidity in your home, you might want to consider purchasing a dehumidifier to reduce the dampness of the air. Higher levels of humidity are likely in the summer months. You should plan to buy a humidity sensor to find out and keep track of what the humidity level in your home is. An air conditioner may assist you in balancing the humidity in the air during the summer. Lower levels of humidity are likely in the winter. Since this can also affect your health and cause dry skin and throat irritation, you should consider using a humidifier to raise the humidity to a healthy level.

Whether you live in an apartment or a house, you should get a humidity sensor, an air conditioner and humidifier. To keep you and your family comfortable and healthy, you should take the proper precautions to insure that the humidity levels are not extremely high and not extremely low. This will also protect your furniture. This is just a word to the wise, since you will probably spend most of your time indoors, if you are like most people nowadays.

Wireless Humidity and Temperature Sensor: 5 Common Uses for Environmental Sensors

1. Temperature and Humidity: You can monitor critical temperatures continuously and in real time with a system that wirelessly monitors the temperature of equipment (cold or hot) anywhere in your building such as: kitchens, laboratories, pharmacies, nursing and medical stations as well as off-site facilities. The system can page, e-mail and visually alert any computer screen the moment food, lab samples, pharmaceuticals or other temperature sensitive items are outside the prescribed parameters. Wireless humidity and temperature sensors allow flexibility, reduce wiring cost and transmit data up to 100 feet without the use of a repeater. The unit is battery powered using two AA batteries and it uses a 418 MHz transmitter so you can change the location of the sensors without worrying about extra labor costs.

2. Barometric pressure: The wireless sensor system also provides Web-based monitoring humidity, and barometric pressure in critical HVAC and refrigeration applications. The compact wireless "end devices" mount on the wall in clean rooms, laboratories, museums, computer server rooms, warehouses, and any remote facility. You can select one end device to serve as an internal or external sensor, in order to monitor temperature and humidity both inside and outside a climate-controlled facility. Another bonus is that these devices are designed for harsh environments such as outdoor weather, HVAC ducts, freezers and refrigerators.

3. Water Detection Sensors: These detection sensors have a remote monitoring system which uses an 802.11 Wi-Fi network of water leak detection in pipelines, agricultural fields, server rooms and more and is available with various other applications.

4. CO2 Sensors: With these sensors you can monitor the CO2 levels continuously and in real time. It is a system that uses your existing Wi-Fi network and is ideal for indoor air quality, HVAC management, environmental surveillance, greenhouses, and incubators. You will receive a page, e-mail and visual alert on any computer screen whenever your measurements are outside the prescribed parameters, making your home and/or workplace safer.

5. PH Sensors: This sensor is ideal for storage applications where continuous pH monitoring is required such as: health care, food storage and inside a laboratory. As with the CO2 sensors, you will receive a page, e-mail and visually alert on any computer screen whenever your measurements are outside the prescribed parameters.

Exploring the Technology of Humidity Sensors

Science and processing technology rely on humidity sensors as part of control systems in a variety of applications. Many people are aware of the relative humidity number reported by the local weather reporter on TV. While this helps the average citizen prepare for his day, it is only one very small reason for the existence of sensors to measure humidity. Humidity has impacts on a wide range of industrial and scientific processes and makes a difference in everyone's daily lives. This short article will examine the technology and uses of humidity measurement.

The basic definition of humidity is the water vapor content in a gas such as air or nitrogen. Notice this refers to water vapor - not water in any form. Water existing as a mist or ice crystal in air is not within the definition of humidity. Also, humidity is discussed in various terms depending on how the measurement is made and used. Within certain ranges it is possible to calculate the equivalent measurement in different terms, such as converting relative humidity measurements to dew point temperatures.

Three often used measurement terms are relative humidity, dew point and absolute humidity. Each of these is measured differently and used differently in process controls or data recording applications. Humidity measurement methods have evolved tremendously over the decades.

Early scientists realized human hair changed when water content in the surrounding air changed. This led to mechanical devices that indicated humidity by the changes in a strand of hair. Both human hair and horse hair were used to power indicators or chart recorders. Materials technology provided nylon and other synthetic fibers that were more predictable and easily calibrated. Today, relative humidity sensors are solid-state electronic devices with lower cost and greater robustness.

Dew point is the combination of temperature and gas pressure at which water vapor begins to condense into liquid. Most people understand this in weather report terms but it is an important factor in many scientific calculations and processes outside of weather. Early dew point measurements used chilled mirror technology which was both expensive and temperature limited. Modern electronic dew point sensors are accurate down to -40degrees F.

Absolute humidity is the precise measurement or calculation of the mass of water vapor in a given volume of air or other gas. (Expressed as grams per cubic meter or grains per cubic foot) This is the most useful measurement for a variety of applications. One interesting application is in drag racing. The grains [of water in the ambient air] number is used by all race teams in setting up their racing engines. Modern electronics can measure absolute humidity at temperatures greater than 200 degrees C in almost any environment.

Sometimes process stability problems are related to humidity changes in the process environment. Monitoring humidity can provide clues why results are not consistent. Painting quality can suffer when humidity changes and the process is not adjusted to compensate. The wide range of sensors on the market today assures coverage for any perceivable application.

Humidity sensor manufacturers can deliver accuracy, robustness, size, and cost to meet just about any scientific or technological requirement. Some online research is sure to reveal a variety of options for any application. This article should provide just enough information to make your research more effective.

Wine Storage: How Humidity Affects Your Wine

When you think about wine storage, one of the last things to cross your mind is how will humidity affect it. Most people blindly store their wine wherever they can find a place for it, whether it is in the refrigerator, downstairs in the basement bar, or in a kitchen cabinet. However, what many people fail to realize is that both temperature and humidity have large effects on wine. This means that wine storage anywhere you can put it can truly ruin the taste and quality.

The fact of the matter is that thought does have to go into storage. In all honestly wine is probably of the hardest liquids to store properly as it isn't something you should put wherever you have space. Though there are all sorts of information available on wine storage, there are so many different opinions and answers that it can be hard to decipher which one is most accurate.

If you know anything about wine, you may be well aware of something we call wine coolers. Wine coolers are storage units made specifically for wine. This means that there is a set temperature, humidity level, and a set amount of light for each wine cooler. Wine coolers are one of the most effective and easiest means of wine storage.

When it comes to storage, humidity plays a large role simply because humidity is what is used to seal and cork the bottle. Humidity is needed so that the cork holds the bottle closed tightly as to prevent spillage. At the same time too much humidity can ruin the cork as well as the bottle's label, so it's important to ensure your wine is stored at the right humidity.

If the cork becomes damaged or deteriorated, the solid seal is broken and the wine will start to allow for oxidation. This will cause any wine to become extremely bitter as the oxidation will turn the wine into vinegar.

How do I know which humidity is correct?

If you're storing your wine bottles in a wine cooler, it isn't as important to pay attention to the humidity levels as the wine coolers are made in such a way to create a pretty ideal environment to store wine in. if you do not own a wine cellar, you'll want to find a place where you can store your wine within a 50-70% humidity level.

You will do more damage to your wine when the humidity level is too low. If the humidity level is too high you simply face a ruined wine bottle label. Of course, it is best if you can store your wine within in the 50-70% range to ensure that your wine tastes as good as it was meant to. To determine the humidity of an environment you'll need to find a hygrometer or a humidity sensor. Both will be able to give you the humidity reading within any environment.

To learn more about wine storage as well as to read high quality product reviews of the latest wine coolers on the market today, please visit our Wine Cooler Review Site. We provide excellent un-biased analysis of the wine coolers and reveal to you where you can buy one for up to 60% off!

Humidity Measurement

The measurement of pressure dew point in compressed air systems or gas distribution networks has become more important recently. Manufacturers worldwide are getting aware of negative effects of having too much moisture in the air / gas pipes, as it can cause:

Corrosion in the pipes
Reduces lifespan of pneumatic parts
Failures in actuators
Contamination of compressed air system in general
Unscheduled production stops.
Incalculable additional production costs

Dryers used to remove moisture from gas, are not always performing as they intend to do, mostly caused by a poor maintenance. Humidity measurement acts as a kind of insurance system, monitoring the dryer performance and indicating alarms whenever values are out of valid ranges. As a result it provides:

Fast responses to failures in compressed air drying through permanent monitoring of pressure dew point.
Increase the lifespan of compressed air system and it components.
Make maintenance of the compressed air system more efficient.
Ensures stable quality of products through less problems in operation of the system

But humidity measurement is not only restricted to applications in air / gas drying. There are many more processes in industry where a well monitored dew point is crucial for the overall process and the quality of the products.

Applications for dew point monitoring:

Plastic injection and blow molding
High voltage switch gears and transformers
Spray painting process
Bottle filling
Medical gases
Pipeline drying

Compressed air is used in brake systems and door openers of rail vehicles. It has to be free of any condensate otherwise the brake system and the pneumatic door openers may freeze in winter and corrosion damages in the distribution network and at pneumatic components (cylinders, valves) can occur. For this reason a regular dew point measurement is essential.

The humidity sensor provides reliable and long term stable dew point monitoring in industrial applications. The newly developed sensor features improved signal and stability in demanding industrial applications. Drifts caused by temperature changes, dust and aging are eliminated by the electronics providing reliable measurements. Recalibration interval thus could be increased to 2 years.

The measured dew point is output via a 4-20 mA signal output. The integrated display shows online measurement values and alarm status. One alarm can be programmed which will activate a relay.

Benefits

Humidity sensor for low dew point applications down to -80 oC
Graphic display, relay output
IP65 casing provides robust protection in rough environment
Very fast response time ensures safe and reliable indication
Can be installed directly into dryers through G 1/2" thread
High accuracy of ±2 oC dew point

Why Are Humidity Analysers And Temperature Sensors So Important?

We are so used to pouring a cup of coffee directly from the jug, enjoy some crispy potato chips when we are hungry, start our day with a delicious bowl of cereals, take an aspirin to find relief to a headache or to buying a new set of furniture for our living room that many a time we do not take enough time to think about the industrial process that lays behind each of these products. Industries need to ensure that every product they produce keeps up with strict quality policies and requirements in order to fulfill the expectations of the customers. The whole manufacturing process has to be carefully monitored from beginning to end to make sure that the raw materials are of good quality and that in every single step of the process the environmental conditions are the most adequate ones for the product being manufactured.

Some factors can be easily controlled with the naked eye but many others require factories and industrial facilities to rely on specific equipment. Humidity and temperature are one of those environmental conditions that have to be monitored with specific devices. In many industrial processes, it is of utmost importance to know for certain that either the moisture level or the temperature or both factors are kept within adequate levels as excessive moisture or dryness or a too hot or too cold environment can totally ruin or severely damage the final product.

In order to perform an adequate and up to the minute control of the manufacturing process, factories and factory operators can now rely on highly sensitive devices that provide them with accurate information: moisture analysers and temperature sensors.

As it has already been said, these are highly sensitive instruments that measure the humidity content and temperature of the manufacturing environment as a means to tell if the product is being manufactured under the right conditions. If it is not, the operator can easily make adjustments until all requirements are met.

Humidity sensors are also usually referred to as hygrometers and they can be either analogue or digital. Hygrometers help the food industry, for instance, avoid packing chip potatoes whose water content is higher than advisable or help the wood industry not to cut wood that is too dry to be manipulated.

Factories usually have more than one moisture sensor and temperature sensor installed as, probably, each steps needs to have specific conditions met. These devices, though highly precise and accurate, are easy to use and to interpret, which is highly advantageous as adjustments can be made really fast.

Predict The Future With A Humidity Temperature Sensor

A humidity temperature sensor is a handy equipment to have. If you know how to read the data that it provides, you can use it to essentially control your indoor environmental conditions. Most people think that just controlling the temperature of a room or office is the key to feeling at optimal levels. While this is partially true, you also need to consider the amount of water vapor in the air or the "humidity" in the equation.

There are many definitions of a comfortable indoor environment. It may mean different things to different people. It could mean that a home or desk at work adorned with so many beautiful things like precious ornaments, valuable artifacts and expensive decorations.

For some individuals, they look at the practical side before they consider their haven comfortable and convenient. And one of these factors is the ability of the space to control and regulate the temperature, thereby making it livable and conducive to more efficient working conditions in extreme hot summer days or cold freezing nights.

An efficient home is an insulated home, capable of defending itself from scorching heat conditions. High humidity inside your precious abode is a sure killer of your family and your health. Yes, we are speaking of mold and mildew growth.

In addition, they will certainly shorten the lives of your expensive appliances and electronics which do not thrive in extreme heat condition. The microchips embedded in your laptop, computer and other gadgets easily break apart in terms of function when exposed in heat.

Thus, there is an important need, in such conditions, to have your space insulated to prevent trapping heat inside it. As you may guess, in order for the occupants to be comfy and television and computers to function properly it could get costly if you do not have a way of monitoring your indoor conditions and nip potential issues in the bud.

By having a humidity temperature sensor on hand, it can alert you to potential issues before they happen. It could even allow you to allocated funds in advance to purchase new air conditioning systems because you can practically foresee that replacement of the old system may be in the cards.

It is highly important that you have sufficient knowledge on cooling systems. Be friends with your heating, ventilation and cooling systems. Treat them right with regular maintenance and repairs if necessary and they will, in turn provide you with efficient indoor environments.

Go to: Humidity Temperature Sensor for more information about this topic. Another, related site promoting comfort in your indoor environment is on the Air Conditioner Window Unit.

Arduino Temperature, Humidity and Dew Point Via Hurimel HS1101 Sensor Interface

A great option for adding temperature and humidity (and dew point) measurement to the Arduino (and freeduino) is to use the Hurimel HS1101 sensor.? It is packages as a small board, approximately 1" x 2" with 4 screw terminals.

The only electrical connections are these 4 - 1 for ground, and 3 I/O pins used on the Arduino - 1 analog and 2 digital.?? The pin references used in this article are taken from a Freeduino BBB board.

The 4 pins on the Hurimel are THERM, PULSE, GND and V+.?? Besides a connection to ground on the Arduino, 3 additional pins will be required - an analog and 2 digital pins.? One digital pin is used to provide power (+5VDC), in this example, pin 2 is connected to the V+ screw terminal on the Hurimel.?? Digital pin 5 can be used to count the pulses, connected to the PULSE screw terminal on the Hurimel.? Finally an analog input is required for the temperature reading.? Analog pin A5 on the Arduino connected to the THERM screw terminal on the Hurimel.? Note that a 10k resistor must also be placed between 5V and analog pin A5 on the Arduino.

In summary, the electrical connections in this example are:?

Arduino BBB digital pin 2? -- Hurimel V+ screw terminal
digital pin 5 -- Hurimel PULSE terminal.
GND pin/connection -- Hurimel GND terminal.
Arduino BBB analog pin A5 -- Hurimel THERM terminal.

The Workings of the Humidity Calibration Equipment

The art of the humidity calibration has been a complex system to many, and also that relative humidity is well known to be the most complicated of physical quantities to calibrate. The reason for this been, is that before you are able to calibrate humidity, you have to ensure that the area is indeed stable to get high accuracy.

The correct pressure calibration equipment has to be in place in order for you to get this done correctly. This can lead to be a complicated matter if you are tempting to do this outdoors. There are various methods with the humidity calibrators that you can choose from, and every humidity calibration methods does need temperature uniformity to get an exact measurement of the temperature that you are given.

Most of the humidity calibration equipment is delicate to ambient temperature and to the relative humidity. Depending of the type of maintenance that is given, there are certain tolerances as well as calibration standards that have to be kept, if not so, there could be doubts in the results. That is why it is important that you do keep the humidity as well as the temperature as this is what is reported on all calibration certificates. The air handling systems that are been used for the use of environment control, and this is also, where the humidity calibrators work, and the monitoring of the devices ensures that the systems does operate accurately.

This is also to ensure that all parameters are kept at reasonable limits, and this is important to the use of any laboratory. Laboratories that are located throughout the world, make use of mechanical humidity as well as temperature charts for more than a few years, and up until now there has been the digital recorders that has made things so much easier for them. This means that the recording of all data could be done for longer periods at a time and you would get the most accurate results from this.

There are two sensors that are on the display unit of the humidity recorder, and they both have their very own sensing devices for the seeking of any temperature elements. This means that the monitoring of relative humidity and temperature would be accurate in two different locations at the same time. The sensor also has an analog to digital converters. The measurements are then done in digital format and is passed on from the display to the sensor unit. This means that the sensor unit is the sole accuracy provider. The only division of this unit that bears any type of importance is by all means that senor unit. The sensor units calibration adjustments the setting of digital parameters that are able to be stored in a non volatile memory and this is located in the sensor units.

You should ensure that you do indeed have the know how when it comes to the humidity calibration, as this is highly important when you measure the temperature as well as relative humidity, when you are using the torque calibrator, you will have errors to deal with in the end.

How A Humidity Sensor Can Help You Improve the Air Quality

What is humidity?

Humidity is the total amount of water vapor or moisture present in the air. You, your family members, and even your pets produce moisture at the time of breathing. Did you know, even your indoor plants can create moisture? Moreover, we use water in various indoor activities like bathing, showering, washing clothes, cooking, and dish washing. All these can form moisture, that, if not controlled or measured properly with the help of a humidity sensor, can cause serious health problems. And, if you run a health center like hospital, blood bank, and pharmacy then you keeping track of the temperature is an absolute necessity.

When does humidity becomes a problem?

Certain amount of humidity is required for the comfort and health of you and your family members. However, too much or too little amount of humidity can create a lot of problems. Such problems generally becomes intolerable when all the windows and doors are closed and the indoor air cannot circulate properly.

How a humidity sensor can help

It is a device that is used to measure and get the report of the relative humidity present in the indoor air. If you or any of your family members suffer with illness affected by humidity, then you can consider buying a measurement device as a part of your heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Apart from that, they can also be used in wine cellars, cars, commercial HVAC systems, and meteorology departments to predict and report weather.

How does it work

Such devices sense relative humidity (RH) and measures moisture and air temperature. Wondering what is RH? Well, it is the ratio of the total moisture present in the air and how much temperature the air can hold. Generally, the warmer the air gets, the more moisture it becomes. That is why relative humidity or the ratio fluctuates in temperature. A humidity sensor will sense the ratio and convert it into digital reading to show the amount of moisture.

What are the options available

However, there are different types of humidity sensors available in the market but not all of them can provide precise measurement of temperature and humidity. Moreover, if you do not want to get into the hassles of wires and huge devices, then you should consider buying a compact WIFI device for your requirements. These devices are accurate, small in size, and affordable as well.

Want to buy superior quality humidity sensor from a company that is an industry leader and is renowned for manufacturing WIFI Sensor products? Then, SensoScientific, Inc. is the name you should trust.

What is a Humidity Sensor and How is it Useful?

Humidity sensors are used in homes as part of the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning,) as well as in office buildings and industry. They are used in places that are affected by high and low humidity that requires a set constant humidity to be maintained. A humidity sensor, also referred to as a hygrometer, is a device that measures the humidity in the air. The humidity sensor monitors the electrical changes in relation to the quantity of humidity in the air. It is used to control such machines as air conditioners, humidifiers, and dehumidifiers by adjusting to the changes in the level of humidity in the air.

Hygrometer are beneficial for people who suffer from health conditions that are aggravated by high humidity. As well, a person with allergies or asthma can use a humidity sensor because low humidity can aggravate these conditions and too much humidity can cause the growth of fungus, bacteria, mold, and mildew which can also aggravate these conditions. They are also useful for people with wine cellars who want to maintain a constant temperature and humidity so wine does not spoil. As well, hygrometer are useful for storage of valuable items such as antiques which can be damaged if exposed to moisture. The sensor mechanism of the humidity sensor detects the electrostatic changes in the air as the humidity in the air around it changes.

The benefit of these sensors in industry are they allow for accurate measurements and recording of humidity data. The data loggers can be used for real-time monitoring and sends an alert if there are sudden changes. Once the sensor picks up the changes, the measurement is then converted into humidity readings and recorded in a data logger. The changes in voltage are converted into digital readings showing the amount of moisture in the air. There is the choice of using a couple of data loggers in one application or numerous data loggers for monitoring broadly dispersed locations. It is useful for mapping and validation, and data logging and recording, for reports.

Three types of sensor technologies are Resistive, Capacitive, and Thermal Conductivity sensing. Resistive sensors are useful when using them in remote locations. Capacitive sensors are beneficial for wide RH range and condensation tolerance. Thermal conductivity sensors are beneficial in corrosive environments that have high temperatures. The type of sensor used will depend on the type of environment. Commercial and office buildings often have humidity sensors in their HVAC systems, which assists in keeping the air safe and healthy to breathe. Humidity sensors also have industrial uses for the manufacturing of materials that are sensitive to moisture. As well, humidity sensors are used for collecting data for weather stations and ocean research where humidity has to be measured and recorded for a period of time to evaluate patterns and forecast weather.

Advancements in technology have made it possible to control humidity for a variety of reasons such as to maintain healthy indoor air, protect items from moisture exposure, and for different research applications. There are a number of companies online that specialize in providing quality hygrometer that are highly accurate and resistant to damage from physical and chemical contaminants.

With over 30 years of experience providing technical solutions, we are the data logger leaders.

An Introduction to Humidity Sensors

In scientific and industrial environments humidity sensors are highly appreciated devices as part of their control or monitoring systems as they allow factory operators and scientists make sure that they are operating with chemical compounds or other kind of elements in an environment that complies with the adequate levels of humidity.

There are a wide number of applications where humidity sensors become useful. Humidity can have a serious impact on chemical and industrial processes, ruining hours and hours on end of production and scientific efforts and this is why these instruments are so valuable.

Humidity is the content of water vapor in air and we are quite used to learning about it every morning as we listen to the weather forecast before going to work. Just as an excess of humidity makes it difficult to keep our hair straight and we suffer from frizz (curly haired men and women know what I am talking about), in laboratories and industrial environments such as pet and human food industries, leather industries, coffee bean grinding industries and beer manufacturing an excess of humidity can be really serious. And just as we cannot tell exactly how wet it is outside just by popping our heads out of the window, factory operators and scientists need to rely on humidity sensors or hygrometers to know if the place where they are manufacturing medicines, beer, potato chips, grind coffee, pet food, breakfast cereals and so on is dry enough. Hygrometers are extremely sensitive devices that can tell quite accurately if there is a need to do some kind of adjustment to the humidity levels.

Industries and laboratories usually have more than one humidity sensor installed in their premises as each step of the manufacturing process may require precise levels of moisture. At certain stages of the manufacturing procedure a sample is taken and weighed. Then it is introduced in the moisture sensor where it is dried up. This can take several minutes or a couple of hours depending on the size of the sample and what has to be measured. Once dried, the sample is weighed again. An operator compares the two weights in order to know the water content in the initial sample. If the result obtained is within acceptable levels, the process continues but, if any kind of correction or adjustment has to be made, he does it immediately so that the manufacturing process is not altered.

Residential Humidity And Temperature Sensors

Have you ever imagined that it would be possible for you to keep the humidity and temperature of your house under control independently of how wet or dry it is outside or of how cold or hot the weather is? Believe it or not, this is now possible for many home owners thanks to technological advancements that have made ordinary industrial devices more compact and affordable for domestic use.

Over the last years, more and more home owners are using humidity and temperature sensors to keep the moisture and temperature levels of their properties at comfortable and healthy levels. These devices, which are widely used in industrial facilities to ensure that the manufacturing process occurs seamlessly and according to quality standards, are becoming more and more common for residential use.

At first, humidity sensors, usually referred to as hygrometers or moisture analyzers, were used in family groups in which a member suffered from allergies or some kind of pulmonary disease that made him or her especially sensitive to allergens or changes in the humidity conditions present in a room. Thus, with a moisture sensor it was easy to establish a safe level of humidity and make immediate amendments to it every time it was necessary.

Little by little these devices became more popular as home owners assessed their advantages. By installing one in their basement, it was easier for them to detect leaking pipes that would cause a disaster if left unattended or discovered months later. These humidity analyzers are extremely sensitive instruments and, fortunately, they are easy to calibrate and operate. As they are precise instruments, the information they provide can be trusted thus ensuring that the comfort and quality of your home is ensured.

Temperature sensors are also very popular as they help family groups make a better use of their heaters and air conditioning devices and, as a consequence, save money on electricity. Temperature sensors can be connected to the heaters or air conditioners so that whenever this thermometer detects that the temperature is lower or higher than expected, the heating or cooling instruments are turned on until the previously set up temperature is reached.

Home owners can place temperature sensors in each room of their house as they can be set up individually. Just as humidity sensors, they provide accurate and trustworthy information that helps every member of the family to be in a room as comfortable as they want it.

What are you waiting for? Buy one of these devices, or both of them, for your house and enjoy the home of the future.

Server Rack Monitoring For Temperature and Humidity Control

The server rack is being increasingly used these days to offer safe and manageable work environment. Now that servers have been reduced in size, techs can put many more in each server rack resulting in a tremendous heat load. This heat can build up fast creating a heat zone that can cause servers to shut down unexpectedly. One way to avoid this is have a system in place that monitors heat and humidity.

In order tackle this problem, server rack manufacturers have come up with sensors that come equipped with alarms. This is to ensure that the temperature in the server room does not rise above the danger level. These sensors can be built in to rackmount powerstrips or as a separate unit within the server racks. Depending on the sensors, users can be notified by alarm or anywhere in the world via email about heat and humidity factors. Bottom line, these type sensors can help prevent server damage and associated network problems.

These environmental sensors range from email alerts to indicator lights that blink as soon as the temperature reaches a preset level. This depends on the type of racks as well as individual manufacturers and user preference. It is also possible they can be customized per your specifications.

The advantage to having environmental sensors in your rack is instant notification that can allow you to shut down or cool down a server before major damage is done. Sensors that are part of Ethernet rackmount powerstrips can be accessed remotely for instant access to the problem.

Nowadays, there are varieties that also manage airflow and water at various locations, apart from controlling temperature and humidity. Most of these sensors are small and take up very little room in a rack cabinet.

With such mind boggling wide variety of options available in the market, it is really up to you as to which sensor alarm variety you would like to go for in your server rack. But whatever you choose, it is important to incorporate one of them to respond as fast as possible in an emergency situation.

ISC has a large selection of server rack, computer rack and rackmount accessories. Their online catalog for rackmount powerstrips does a good job showing your options along with detailed description so you know exactly what the rack or cabinet can do.
