Weather Station Components

An advanced weather station which wirelessly monitors the temperature (indoor and outdoor), relative humidity, wind direction, wind speed and rainfall generally consists of a wireless backlit LCD display screen for the system control and data display, system processor, wireless communications and sensors.

All wireless weather stations are run by battery or solar power making them very portable with very low and easy maintenance.

Below is a list of measurement components used on wireless weather stations:

Thermometer

Used to measure the temperature and temperature gradient in your exact location. A thermometer works by measuring the temperature through resistance, the system processor records the resistance that is higher in warmer temperatures and lower in colder temperatures.

Anemometer

Used to measure wind speed and pressure. An Anemometer has 3 or 4 small hollow hemispheres set to catch the wind and revolve on a vertical rod, the revolutions of these cups are then recorded by the system processor which then calculates the winds velocity.

Barometer

Used to measure atmospheric pressure, this pressure tendency can forecast short-term changes in the weather. A Barometer works by measuring the pressure exerted by the atmosphere by using water, air or mercury.

Psychrometer

Is a simple form of a Hygrometer which is used to measure the relative humidity. A Psychrometer works by measuring the temperature of condensation, changes in electrical resistance and changes in electrical capacitance.

Udometer

Also known as a rain gauge is used to measure the amount of rainfall over a period of time. A Udometer works by having a rain collection container which measures the amount of rain falling into the collection point.

Home Security System Supplies - Choose the Right Components For Your System

We all want our families to be safe and in the modern world that we live in today advances in technology can help keep our families safe and give us peace of mind. There are almost countless options when it comes to home security systems today. Choosing the various supplies and components you'll need will depend on the degree of protection you require and of course any budgetary restrictions. So let's talk about some of the home security system supplies available today.

There are security cameras, both wired and wireless. These cameras may act as a deterrent to any potential thieves. Wireless cameras are relatively easy to install and can be done by a do-it-yourselfer over the course of the weekend.

Every home security system will have magnetic contacts. These contacts are used to detect when a door or window is opened. One contact would be in the door itself the other contact being in the door jamb. When the connection is broken the alarm is triggered.

Motion detectors are also a common components in a home security system. For outdoor use, a motion detector can be used to turn on a light when someone approaches the house. They may also be used to sound a chime alerting you to the fact that someone is approaching the house. Indoors, motion detectors can cover any area that you wish. You may not have every door and window in your house equipped with magnetic contacts. If that is the case, those particular doors or windows can serve as access points that would not trigger an alarm. However, a motion detector can cover an area such as this.

Another important component in a home security system are glass break sensors. If someone were to break a window but the window frame remains intact it may not trigger an alarm equipped with magnetic contacts. In this case, the glass break sensor would detect the sound that breaking glass makes and trigger the alarm.

Other home security system supplies that are available today include smoked detectors, gas and carbon monoxide detectors, temperature and humidity sensors, photoelectric beam detectors, and more. The list of available components and features seems almost endless. It certainly is a good idea to equip your home with a security system but it's also a good idea to do your homework before getting started with the project.
